Personally, I happen to think that a book is of extraordinary value if it gives the reader nothing more than a smile or two. In fact, I happen to think that’s huge  (Book Quotes) Only one hour in the normal day is more pleasurable than the hour spent in bed with a book before going to sleep, and that is the hour spent in bed with a book after being called in the morning  (Book Quotes) You can put down a bad book; you can avoid listening to bad music; but you cannot miss the ugly tower block opposite your house  (Book Quotes) The world has progressed to the point where it’s most powerful force is public opinion. We must not just believe in what we sell. We must sell what we believe in. And we must pour a vast energy into those causes  (Book Quotes) It is important as a mentalist to notice small things about people... little things such as being able to tell if someone is right or left handed by looking at which way their belt is pointing. Looking at a book of matches will tell you if they are right or left handed by the side the matches are removed... It’s important to notice these things because the more you do, the more you will realize that each person has little psychological nuances that tell you a lot about the individual. Doing so will tremendously sharpen your skills  (Book Quotes) It’s hard to read through a book on the principles of magic without glancing at the cover periodically to make sure it isn’t a book on software design  (Book Quotes) It is difficult, almost impossible, to find the book from which something either valuable or amusing may not be found, if the proper alembic be applied  (Book Quotes) A definition is death. A definition is the answer to which you must look up the question in the back of your book  (Book Quotes) Am I a guy who writes about himself in a comic book, or am I just a character in that book? If I die, will that character keep going, or will he just fade away?  (Book Quotes) If you believe that no one was ever corrupted by a book, you have also to believe that no one was ever improved by a book  (Book Quotes) Where is the book in which the teacher can read about what teaching is? The children themselves are this book. We should not learn to teach out of any book other than the one lying open before us and consisting of the children themselves  (Book Quotes) Never buy an editor or publisher a lunch or a drink until he has bought an article, story or book from you. This rule is absolute and may be broken only at your peril  (Book Quotes) The product of paper and printed ink, that we commonly call the book, is one of the great visible mediators between spirit and time, and, reflecting zeitgeist, lasts as long as ore and stone  (Book Quotes) I’m like a book you have to read. A book can’t read itself to you. It doesn’t even know what it’s about. I don’t know what I’m about  (Book Quotes) The book designer strives for perfection; yet every perfect thing lives somewhere in the neighborhood of dullness and is frequently mistaken for it by the insensitive  (Book Quotes) There’s a reason every book, even one that isn’t very serious, is shaped like a suitcase  (Book Quotes) The simple truth is that being a creative artist takes courage; it’s not a job for the faint of heart. It takes courage each and every time you put a book or poem or painting before the public, because it is, in fact, enormously revealing  (Book Quotes) The enemy is not the badly written page; it is the empty page the great advantage of a badly written page is that it can be rewritten. It can be improved. A blank page is zero. In fact, it’s worse than zero, because it represents territory you’re afraid, unwilling, or too lazy to explore. Avoid exploring this territory long enough, and you’ll abandon your book  (Book Quotes) How do you explain to somebody who doesn’t understand that you don’t build a library to read. A library is a resource. Something you go to, for reference, as and when. But also something you simply look at, because it gives you succour, answers to some idea of who you are or, more to the point, who you would like to be, who you will be once you own every book you need to own  (Book Quotes) I believe that a good children’s book should appeal to all people who have not completely lost their original joy and wonder in life. The fact is that I don’t make books for children at all. I make them for that part of us, of myself and of my friends, which has never changed, which is still a child  (Book Quotes) In waiting for the glorious moment of that first book contract, writers must have giant reservoirs of patience. Yet they must persevere because they don’t know the destiny that is being worked out for them. They creep humbly along the ground, without the spacious aerial vision of their lives that would show them the destiny in store for them  (Book Quotes) Sometimes I wish I were a character in a book and there was a writer out there giving me things to say  (Book Quotes) I suspect any serious reader has a first great book, just the way anybody has a first kiss  (Book Quotes) Experiencing life through a book can help you learn without all the pain of going through the experiences first hand  (Book Quotes) Slamming the book shut produces a wind on the face, a weather that is copyrighted by the author, and this wind may not be deployed without permission, nor may the pages be turned without express written permission  (Book Quotes) One thing that worried me was how writers get categorized and so they end up having to write the same kind of book again and again.
