Text Quotes
I like the weight, look, and feel of a book. I enjoy turning the pages, and frequently scan the spines of my many books on the wall, each title a reminder of the stored information and creative thoughts contained therein  (Book Quotes) I have to admit that I am really partial to the look and feel of a book. I have been that way my entire life  (Book Quotes) Wisdom is not book learning but, rather, a quality or state of knowing what is true or right coupled with the judgment to discern constructive action. Wisdom is the insight and intuition contained in the proverbial still, small voice that only a quiet mind can hear and know  (Book Quotes) It was important to me that the book didn’t comment on being a teenager, but felt instead like a story told by a teenager  (Book Quotes) My sister played the piano. She’s two years older than me, and I always wanted to play something. So my grandmother got the guitar for me, and showed me a couple of chords to start off. And then I got me a book. Next thing you know, I was playing along with sister  (Book Quotes) For me, I was in school and I pushed myself to be a good student, just because that’s the type of person I was, but I never had a connection to any of it. I don’t think my brain functioned in a way that was at its height, when I was in school. I needed something like art to really value the way my mind works. I wasn’t reaching my full potential by sitting in a classroom and reading from a book. My mind didn’t work that way  (Book Quotes) I just think, as writers, especially with a book that takes years to write, you sort of wake up every morning hoping and praying that you can make it work for the day  (Book Quotes) Those who draw their sustenance from science are blessed. It is for me to only derive an occasional pleasure. This is nothing worthy of conceit, but I am indeed touched by the joys. This book is an ode to such joys, a digest of my collections from various sources  (Book Quotes) The moment when the finished book or, better yet, a tightly packed carton of finished books arrives on my doorstep is the moment of truth, of culmination; its bliss lasts as much as five minutes, until the first typographical error or production flaw is noticed  (Book Quotes) The best part of every author is in general to be found in his book, I assure you  (Book Quotes) When I am working on a book or a story I write every morning as soon after the first light as possible. There is no one to disturb you and it is cold and you warm as you write  (Book Quotes) At times there seems to be a million ideas worth painting. However, there are days when it’s a challenge to pull any idea together. On these days I go to my studio, leaf through an art history book, and tell myself that I am part of this great tradition  (Book Quotes) I’ve just surfaced from spending several days in a state of rapture: I was reading a book... I felt alive and engaged and positively brilliant, bursting with ideas, brimming with memories of other books I’ve loved  (Book Quotes) A book is judged, not by its reference to life, but by its reference to other books  (Book Quotes) Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. We must not permit anything to stand between us and the book that could change our lives  (Book Quotes) When I taught, a lot of my students weren’t big readers, so they would write something and I realized that they thought it belonged in a book. Like, they didn’t know what the inside of a book looked like, you know what I mean?  (Book Quotes) Writing: I certainly do rewrite my central myth in every book, and would never read or trust any writer who did not also do so  (Book Quotes) The artist who paints the emotions creates an enclosed world... the picture... which, like a book, has the same interest no matter where it happens to be. Such an artist, we may imagine, spends a great deal of time doing nothing but looking, both around him and inside him  (Book Quotes) When I am writing, I focus one hundred percent on my writing. Then, by the time I’m half way through the book, I’m already thinking about the ending  (Book Quotes) For any leftover inventory, publishers must have a program to maximize the sale of a book  (Book Quotes) I think if I have established anything in my book, it’s that a key element of being my friend is being comfortable with my forced fun  (Book Quotes) It’s somewhat of a contradiction,.. I guess the quieter the voice, the more necessary it is to push it. It’s not going to leap out at you and scream. I also can’t control how a book is marketed. To say the book marketing is aggressive, fine, I’m happy with that. Push the book. That doesn’t mean that my personality or writing style changes  (Book Quotes) The language of prose is very different than the language of cinema, so the movie has to successfully translate what was in the book  (Book Quotes) I’ve tried to make a book that’s accessible to the ordinary, intelligent reader. Very often books that cover this kind of subject are written by academics, for academics. But I am not an academic  (Book Quotes) In my twenties, it was so important for me to show people I had all these other books and these other sorts of writing in me,.. A lot of authors, if their first book is a success, they’re terrified to write a second one. But in my case, since the first book wasn’t considered a literary book, I was really determined to show people I could do other types of writing  (Book Quotes) One of my rigid goals is to keep each book under 300 pages because I think so much nonfiction is literally weighty that people don’t get through these books,.. If people don’t finish your book, then they don’t know what you’re talking about  (Book Quotes) To decide to reach for this blue and not that one, to switch styles or subject matter, to move, in the middle of a sentence, in one direction or another, to commit to this book when that one is also calling, are the sorts of choices that artists must make if they are to function  (Book Quotes) If there is poetry in my book about the sea, it is not because I deliberately put it there, but because no one could write truthfully about the sea and leave out the poetry  (Book Quotes) When I was a kid, a book I read advised young artist to be themselves. That decided it for me. I was a corny kind of guy, so I went in for corn  (Book Quotes) There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine or newspaper, with merciless severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use only if it is absolutely truthful  (Book Quotes)
