Text Quotes
I used to hate doing color. I hated transparency film. The way I did color was by not wanting to know what kind of film was in my camera  (Camera Quotes) The film of tomorrow will not be directed by civil servants of the camera, but by artists for whom shooting a film constitutes a wonderful and thrilling adventure  (Camera Quotes) I was in the movies. I danced, I sang, I learned to work in front of a camera. It was like being in a repertory company  (Camera Quotes) As actors, we went where we wanted to, and the camera followed us: it was like having another person in the room. There was no formal structure to the process. It was very liberating  (Camera Quotes) It’s an incredible privilege for an actor to look into the camera. It’s like looking right into the heart of the film, and you can’t take that lightly  (Camera Quotes) Often while traveling with a camera we arrive just as the sun slips over the horizon of a moment, too late to expose film, only time enough to expose our hearts  (Camera Quotes) No matter how advanced your camera you still need to be responsible for getting it to the right place at the right time and pointing it in the right direction to get the photo you want  (Camera Quotes) I really love sort of classical cinema where people were telling stories with very little dialogue, and people were using the camera in a really interesting way  (Camera Quotes) My eyes has been my camera taking pictures of the world and my songs has been my messages that I tried to scatter across the back sides and along the steps of the fire escapes and on the window sills and through the dark halls  (Camera Quotes) I am a camera with its shutter open, quite passive, recording, not thinking. Recording the man shaving at the window opposite and the woman in the kimono washing her hair. Some day, all this will have to be developed, carefully printed, fixed  (Camera Quotes) To be a gentleman is to be oneself, all of a seam, on camera and off  (Camera Quotes) The virtue of the camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking  (Camera Quotes) Imagination helps me to become part of that journey that I’m going through in font of the camera, or in front of an audience. I used to think you had to disappear within a character, but I find that puts a mask on what I do  (Camera Quotes) The camera has an interest in turning history into spectacle, but none in reversing the process. At best, the picture leaves a vague blur in the observer’s mind; strong enough to send him into battle perhaps, but not to have him understand why he is going  (Camera Quotes) With a good script a good director can produce a masterpiece; with the same script a mediocre director can make a passable film. But with a bad script even a good director can’t possibly make a good film. For truly cinematic expression, the camera and the microphone must be able to cross both fire and water. That is what makes a real movie. The script must be something that has the power to do this  (Camera Quotes) I don’t know if the camera likes me, but I do like the camera  (Camera Quotes) When you’re an actor or actress in this business, usually the natural progression is to direct, but a lot of times, we don’t get a chance to get to it. Myself, I really want to get into it. I want to be the person who eventually doesn’t have to be in front of the camera  (Camera Quotes) There’s a gap between what I want to do, what I do on camera, and what gets edited. Right? So the goal is to try and close the gaps. What’s the biggest compliment is if I read a review and it’s exactly what I wrote down in my diary before ever filming it. That’s really cool. That’s the biggest signifier of closing the gaps  (Camera Quotes) Yeah, I kind of grew up in front of the camera: I started modeling when I was two  (Camera Quotes) My philosophy is that I’m an artist. I perform an art not with a paint brush or a camera. I perform with bodily movement. Instead of exhibiting my art in a museum or a book or on canvas, I exhibit my art in front of the multitudes  (Camera Quotes) I’m really specific in the way that I shoot. I’ve always had a very good sense of what I need in the editing room. I used to shoot in a way that drew more attention to the camera and I’ve tried, in each film, to draw less and less attention to the camera. I think when you pay attention to the shots, you’re aware of the fact that there’s a director  (Camera Quotes) There’s something very scary about exposing yourself on camera, knowing that you’re going to be put on thousands of screens around the world for everyone to judge, but there’s also something very thrilling and exciting about it  (Camera Quotes) I mean yes to act out something or take chances in the performance is one thing. But in terms of a camera, whatever’s captured is captured so that’s a little more daunting  (Camera Quotes) I don’t think I approach my songs differently from other artists. You get a big picture of it, and you imagine the song and hear and feel it, and that big picture is like a snapshot, and it comes to you as fast as it takes to click a camera  (Camera Quotes) I love improvisation. You can’t blame it on the writers. You can’t blame it on direction. You can’t blame it on the camera guy... It’s you. You’re on. You’ve got to do it, and you either sink or swim with what you’ve got  (Camera Quotes) There’s a lot of thinking when you choreograph something. You’re not just choreographing some bodies, arms, legs flying around to look cool. It’s a lot more complicated and sophisticated. You also have to deal with the connection of the whole film, so when I choreograph, I think of the movement itself, the camera angles, the characters  (Camera Quotes) It is not a camera, or a reporter that makes something real and genuine; more often a camera or a reporter does the opposite  (Camera Quotes) I am a camera, with its shutter open. Someday, all of this will be developed, printed, fixed  (Camera Quotes) I don’t keep a travel diary. I did keep a travel diary once and it was a big mistake. All I remember of that trip is what I bothered to write down. Everything else slipped away, as though my mind felt jilted by my reliance on pen and paper. For exactly the same reason I don’t travel with a camera. My holiday becomes the snapshots and anything I forget to record is lost  (Camera Quotes) It adds up, but I deem it all necessary, even the camera gear. I enjoy photographing the otherworldly colors and shapes presented in the convoluted depths of slot canyons and the prehistoric artwork preserved in their alcoves  (Camera Quotes)
