Text Quotes
I think most people don’t really understand all that it takes to stand on your toes, and to be able to jump and land without any noise, or for a male dancer to be able to lift a girl. All of these things look so effortless, but there’s an attention to detail and years of training, as well as being able to transform into a character and being able to meld all of those things together  (Character Quotes) You really have to be a character to serve it properly. Obviously, you’re acting, but you have to have those things in yourself, whether it’s the experience or the same qualities  (Character Quotes) For me as an actor, it’s absolutely so thrilling to hear anybody talk about the character that I play  (Character Quotes) With me, growing up in a theater family and having them be so supportive, from the jump, and being a part of this theater community where the brass ring is working, wherever that is, and then to play a character where he’s not really concerned with that and is really just concerned with the monetary aspect of the job, and then to be identified with someone who is the antithesis of your energy and where you come from, has been a very interesting and surreal ride  (Character Quotes) I’d like to do a play, but I can’t find the right thing. I don’t want it to be a starring role. I just want to play a really interesting character  (Character Quotes) When you start playing a character every day for seven weeks, it suddenly starts becoming easier  (Character Quotes) I was always amazed the way people would come in looking one way and transform completely to the point where I couldn’t recognize their language, their accent, the way they looked, their hair, their face even changed becoming so inside of the character  (Character Quotes) I love doing a television show. It just always feels like it’s a little while before you find something that feels unique and that feels like a character that you really want to play for awhile  (Character Quotes) A dissolute character is more dissolute in thought than in deed. And the same is true of violence. Our violence in word and deed is but a feeble echo of the surging violence of thought in us  (Character Quotes) We ought to be very cautious in the prosecution of magic and heresy. The attempt to put down these two crimes may be extremely perilous to liberty, and may be the origin of a number of petty acts of tyranny if the legislator be not on his guard; for as such an accusation does not bear directly on the overt acts of a citizen, but refers to the idea we entertain of his character  (Character Quotes) The wise have a solid sense of silence and the ability to keep a storehouse of secrets. Their capacity and character are respected  (Character Quotes) You cannot hide any secret. If the artist succor his flagging spirits by opium or wine, his work will characterize itself as the effect of opium or wine. If you make a picture or a statue, it sets the beholder in that state of mind you had when you made it. If you spend for show, on building, or gardening, or on pictures, or on equipages, it will so appear. We are all physiognomists and penetrators of character, and things themselves are detective  (Character Quotes) It is the patient building of character, the intense struggle to realize the truth, which alone will tell in the future of humanity  (Character Quotes) One must keep one’s character. Earn a character first if you can, and if you can’t, then assume one  (Character Quotes) Instead of saying that man is the creature of circumstance, it would be nearer the mark to say that man is the architect of circumstance. It is character which builds an existence out of circumstance. From the same materials one man builds palaces, another hovels; one warehouses, another villas; bricks and mortar are mortar and bricks until the architect can make them something else  (Character Quotes) The glory of the nation rests in the character of her men. And character comes from boyhood. Thus every boy is a challenge to his elders  (Character Quotes) If you pass something every day and it has a little character, it begins to intrigue you  (Character Quotes) Since the last decades of the nineteenth century, revolt against the objectified world has determined the character of art and literature  (Character Quotes) I have always been more interested in creating a character that contains something crippled. I think nearly all of us have some kind of defect  (Character Quotes) Renoir had not only a great interest in human character, in human feeling, but had also a great love for the people he painted  (Character Quotes) The character of greatness must be measured in two ways, else the measurement is flawed. First, and by far most popular of all, is by one’s ability to succeed in times of trial where others may fail. But of no less importance, and perhaps foundational to any form of greatness, is one’s willingness to start over in spite of failure, when success seems farthest away  (Character Quotes) From a slight, undetermined drawing, where the ideas of the composition and character are just touched upon, the imagination supplies more than the painter himself, probably, could produce. And we accordingly often find that the finished work disappoints the expectation that was raised from the sketch  (Character Quotes) I do not see in what manner practice alone can be sufficient for the production of correct, excellent, and finished pictures. Works deserving this character never were produced, nor ever will arise, from memory alone  (Character Quotes) Psychic health depends on orgastic potency, i.e., upon the degree to which one can surrender to and experience the climax of excitation in the natural sexual act. It is founded upon the healthy character attitude of the individual’s capacity for love. Psychic illnesses are the result of a disturbance of the natural capacity for love  (Character Quotes) These various habits of thought, or habitual expressions of life, are all phases of the single life sequence of the individual; therefore a habit formed in response to a given stimulus will necessarily affect the character of the response made to other stimuli. A modification of human nature at any one point is a modification of human nature as a whole  (Character Quotes) Luck is always waiting for something to turn up. Labor, with keen eyes and strong will, always turns up something. Luck lies in bed and wishes the postman will bring news of a legacy. Labor turns out at six o’clock and with busy pen or ringing hammer, lays the foundation of a competence. Luck whines. Labor whistles. Luck relies on chance, labor on character  (Character Quotes) A paradox is a seeming contradiction, always demanding a change on the side of the observer. If we look at almost all things honestly we see everything has a character of paradox to it. Everything, including ourselves  (Character Quotes) It seemed to me that it was possible to translate light, forms, and character using nothing but color, without recourse to values  (Character Quotes) It’s so easy to be undisciplined. And to be disciplined is so against my character, my general nature anyway, that I have to strain a little bit to keep on the right track  (Character Quotes) When you try to do one step forward to attain knowledge about the hidden truths, then do the same time three steps forward to perfect your character  (Character Quotes)
