Text Quotes
Before I start a book, I talk over my characters with a friend who is a counselor. I like to make sure I have the right dynamics in place and understand each character’s belief system, fears, coping mechanisms and things like that.  (Characters Quotes) To portray an iconic character has been brilliant in itself, and to be able to do that on a show like ‘Once Upon a Time’ enhances that because the show puts a spin on characters and makes them very different and puts core values that are very different that aren’t in the original fairy tales a lot of people relate to.  (Characters Quotes) I’ve been watching ‘The Cosby Show’ and ‘Roseanne’ a lot right now, and those work so well because they’re not, like, jokey comedies; they are coming from real characters. We want our show to be like that. A family show.  (Characters Quotes) When I was younger - I don’t do this too much now - but sometimes if I couldn’t sleep, I would lie in bed and imagine all the characters I’ve played at a dinner table together.  (Characters Quotes) Most country songs, certainly all the stuff I’ve written, are stories driven by characters  (Characters Quotes) I like playing characters that, you know, a couple could go see the movie and one person could love him and one person could hate him.  (Characters Quotes) Perhaps what distinguishes my characters is their courage and spirit and a certain stubbornness which enables them to keep going even when facing a setback. I think this developed organically as I wrote, but also it came out of a desire to portray women as powerful and intelligent forces in the world.  (Characters Quotes) I love playing these characters that are crazy tough, though. Because I am not in real life. Not at all.  (Characters Quotes) When I was really young. My sister and I would create different characters with our Barbie dolls - I’d be the crazy diva Barbie and she’d be the homeless Barbie.  (Characters Quotes) I’m a neurotic New York Jew by birth. Creating characters is second nature to me.  (Characters Quotes) The easier you make it look, the more difficult it is. Creating characters out of nothing, and making them interesting - and that’s another advice I would give to writers.  (Characters Quotes) When I’m creating characters, I definitely think of theme songs. Writing for me is very visual, so I sometimes think of it in terms of a movie with a soundtrack, and try to transfer that to words.  (Characters Quotes) I did private study for about a month, five days a week, six hours a day. I came to understand the character in ways that I never would’ve previous to that. I was so innocent in respect to ways of creating characters.  (Characters Quotes) My publisher feels that my readers are loyal to the voice of my stories, the characters I’m creating.  (Characters Quotes) I’ve always loved film and wanted to work in film. I just love working and creating new characters, and trying different genres and different things.  (Characters Quotes) I like writing dialogue - I can hear my characters so clearly that writing dialogue often feels as much like transcribing something as it does like creating it.  (Characters Quotes) I think the thing I took most from game playing was just getting in the characters head. I took it really seriously. There’s something about creating your character.  (Characters Quotes) The acting is more of a secondary thing for me now. I will be in it, if I’m the best man for the job, but it really is about creating characters and shows.  (Characters Quotes) It’s fun when you create a world to inhabit it and see the other characters from grounds eye view.  (Characters Quotes) The truth is that creative activity is one that involves the entire self - our emotions, our levels of energy, our characters, and our minds.  (Characters Quotes) When I used to teach creative writing, I would tell the students to make their characters want something right away.  (Characters Quotes) I’m just an entertainer. In a way crime stories are boring. A crime’s been committed and at the end you know it will be solved. So you’ve got to make the story interesting besides it just being a plot. And that’s why character matters, why you’ve got to make the characters interesting.  (Characters Quotes) There’s so much of, it could have been a very critical examination of what happened, and really the emotional lives of the people involved sort of carry the characters forward.  (Characters Quotes) I believe we need more culturally diverse books - about disabled characters, though not about their disability, about people with different sexual orientations, or a boy who is a cross-dresser. We need to reflect the diversity of our society.  (Characters Quotes) I think we’re fascinated by gangsters and that whole lifestyle and crossing the line. We get sort of stuck in our normal lives, if you will, and you want to be bigger than life and I think people somehow live through these sorts of characters.  (Characters Quotes) If I didn’t write sex scenes, all my characters would head to the kitchen and make cups of tea  (Characters Quotes) Once, Naseeruddin Shah told me that the wafer shop was the best acting school that I could have attended. And I completely agree. I observed every customer very minutely and picked up some quirk or the other. Later, I used those experiences while playing different characters.  (Characters Quotes) I would like people to know me for who I am, especially since I think people have a very skewed image of me. I was playing a lot of cute characters, a lot of little girls; I was objectified. And I don’t want people to think of me as that because it’s not who I am, and because I’ve seen a lot of hostility towards that image.  (Characters Quotes) People were fed up with reality shows about midgets getting married and weird Jerry Springer talk shows. There had been a real dry spell of intelligent family-oriented viewing: the type of program that Mom, Dad and the kids can all watch together. With ‘Lost,’ there are just so many characters for people to invest in.  (Characters Quotes) I often talk with other actors about that time when you’ve just finished a job, because I think you do take on the characteristics of some of the characters you play. Sometimes it can be a great thing and sometimes it’s a bit haunting because you’re not quite sure how to leave it on set. My dad talks about it as being ‘de-personalised.’  (Characters Quotes)
