Text Quotes
Whether I’m doing music or I’m walking down the street or I’m in a record store buying a record or I walk into a comic store and I’m buying comics or having a drink with my friends, it’s the same me.  (Comic Quotes) For the uninitiated, ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ is a daily comic strip detailing the antics of an unruly six-year-old and his misanthropic stuffed tiger. The boy, whose vocabulary is packed with more 10-dollar words than a GRE flashcard set, is named after John Calvin, the Reformation-era theologian who preached the doctrine of predestination.  (Comic Quotes) In my head, scenes are shot from certain angles; there are camera pans, all of that kind of stuff. Converting those visuals to comic format was mostly a matter of adapting them to the rhythm of paneling.  (Comic Quotes) I’m never one to care too much if my work becomes adapted; I make comic books  (Comic Quotes) Once I started down the path of co-founding Image Comics, and even co-publisher, it just seems a lot more like a career path that isn’t that atypical for someone with a college degree. Whereas, someone who draws comic books as a freelancer and lives from job to job is a more unusual story.  (Comic Quotes) I’m in awe of comedians that do things that I can’t do, whether it be a one-liner comic like Anthony Jeselnik, whether it be social issues commentary, whether it be - hell, Carrot Top. I can’t be Carrot Top. I can’t.  (Comic Quotes) I’m constantly trying to mine the DNA of John Constantine and stay true to that character in the comic books.  (Comic Quotes) My wife could give a rip about comic books, but she loves ‘Arrow,’ and she loves ‘The Flash,’ and she likes them because of the characters.  (Comic Quotes) I know of only six genuine comic geniuses in movie history; Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Groucho Marx and Harpo Marx, Peter Sellers, and W.C. Fields.  (Comic Quotes) One of the interesting things about Twitter is looking how famous people choose to use it. Take someone like Steve Martin, who I follow: it’s all sorts of comic gems, nothing private, nothing personal - all jokes. Other celebrities are overtly personal - like Charlie Sheen. I do a mix of observations and updates.  (Comic Quotes) I think the thinking is, in the comic books, I should pack as much onto a page as possible, because, you know, it’s kind of the cheaper format, and you want to give readers as much as you can for their dollar.  (Comic Quotes) Cheating on a quiz show? That’s sort of like plagiarizing a comic strip.  (Comic Quotes) I created ‘Captain Underpants’ when I was in the second grade. I was constantly getting in trouble for being the class clown, so my teacher sent me out into the hallway to punish me. It was there in the hall that I began drawing ‘Captain Underpants’. Soon I was making my own comic books about him.  (Comic Quotes) One time, I came off stage and a guy named Roman Decare, God rest his soul, he was a comic. ‘Louie, if you do that family stuff, and you’re a clean comic on stage, you’ll become famous.’ And, for some reason, a switch clicked, and I started doing the family stuff, and it became a giant part of my life.  (Comic Quotes) We never thought we were writing for posterity, because at the time everyone assumed that all the great standards had already been written by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein... The songs we were writing were supposed to be temporary things, of the period, like comic books.  (Comic Quotes) When I first started making comics, I was living with a bunch of guys, old college friends. We had this deal. At the end of each day, they would ask me how far I’d gotten on my comic. And if I hadn’t made my goals, they were supposed to make me feel really bad about myself. They happily obliged.  (Comic Quotes) I have no imagination; I just steal from life and change the color. Then it’s a comic book.  (Comic Quotes) I used to go to the Cleveland Comedy Club all the time. If there was a comic I liked, I’d go see him two or three times that week. Bob Saget was one of those guys.  (Comic Quotes) Years have passed since I have set foot in a comedy club. If the comic is doing badly it’s painful, and if the comic is doing brilliantly, it’s extremely painful.  (Comic Quotes) I did a ‘Last Comic Standing’ audition in 2006, where you’re just performing for three people in a comedy club, in a big comedy club, and I remember them cutting me off, asking about my name in the middle of one of my jokes. Yeah, it’s just real weird when you’re doing stand-up in that type of sterile, unnatural setting.  (Comic Quotes) I stole comic books from my brother when I was a kid, but I was never like an avid fan. I can’t claim to be like a comic book geek.  (Comic Quotes) I’ve probably had my day in the sun. I think I’ve influenced a lot of comic book writers  (Comic Quotes) I was a very sickly kid. While I was in the hospital at age 7, my Dad brought me a stack of comic books to keep me occupied. I was hooked.  (Comic Quotes) I’m sure someone out there has a workable solution. But what do I know? I make comic books and write about jazz. I do know the difference between right and wrong, though.  (Comic Quotes) At a certain point people want to see other movies besides comic book movies so you have to be really careful what you’re going to pick, and how many are going to be released within a year.  (Comic Quotes) Outside of my work as a comic book creator and co-publisher, I’m an avid gamer  (Comic Quotes) I’m a comic book artist. So I think to myself, what do I like to draw? I like to draw hot chicks, fast cars and cool guys in trench coats. So that’s what I write about.  (Comic Quotes) When I was a kid... if I couldn’t get a ride to the comic book store, I would walk a mile and a half each way to get the latest issues of ‘Batman’ and ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘X-Men.’ I could not choose one over the other.  (Comic Quotes) I can say pretty confidently that I am not the right guy to do a superhero movie, just because I was not a comic book kid. I don’t know that mythology, and I don’t have it ingrained in me in the way that a lot of these other directors do.  (Comic Quotes) In high school, I had to hide my comic book side, my nerd side from the civilian world so they wouldn’t categorize me. They would try to marginalize me for what I like. I tried to give it up, believe me. I tried to kick the habit. But there’s too much I liked about it to give it up completely.  (Comic Quotes)
