Text Quotes
I wanted to express myself more fully through writing and directing. It just feels like a package deal. Anytime you create anything, you try to exert mastery over your world.  (Directing Quotes) I don’t like directing that much to want a career as a director for hire. I like to have as much creative control as possible.  (Directing Quotes) I do love directing. I’m only comfortable working in the independent film arena for a very small budget where I have creative control and I can put my stamp on it.  (Directing Quotes) I love being creative. I love acting, but I also love directing because you get to have a vision for the whole and bring that vision to fruition.  (Directing Quotes) I have no interest whatsoever in pursuing acting or becoming a mogul. I love writing and directing; I see those two jobs as the most critical in the making of a film.  (Directing Quotes) Showtime has given new, young filmmakers - black, white, across the board - an opportunity to make films, as well as actors who want to cross over into directing.  (Directing Quotes) I use something that is a real staple in the directing world. It’s called a dance floor. You lay it down so that it’s so smooth you can roll around, and you can put furniture on top of it. It’s seamless and you don’t see it.  (Directing Quotes) Beliefs help us tap the richest resources deep within us, creating and directing these resources to support our desired outcome  (Directing Quotes) The worst part of directing is always seeing the first assembly. It’s devastating. It really is. It’s like going into the delivery room and you can’t wait to see your baby, and it’s a crocodile.  (Directing Quotes) I enjoy directing. I don’t know whether it’s improving or not, but it’s certainly evolving in different directions.  (Directing Quotes) Directing is creating a whole. You’re able to combine different elements and create a film that is unique and true to your vision.  (Directing Quotes) I really enjoy directing television because you get to work in so many different genres and with different people.  (Directing Quotes) I don’t direct so that I can have an identity and so I can go on to CGI movies. I had a big identity as an actor, and that’s not what I’m looking for from directing. Directing is a whole different goal.  (Directing Quotes) The truth is, writing and directing are two very different jobs. They’re not even remotely the same job. It took me a while, as a director, to understand that.  (Directing Quotes) I think directing and writing are very different jobs. Obviously, directing is a more social and managerial job. The other thing about directing is that it’s a very, very pragmatic job, and writing isn’t.  (Directing Quotes) Sometimes it’s difficult directing yourself on film because you can’t quite separate yourself from the subject.  (Directing Quotes) I am incapable of directing a film like ‘Agneenath.’ I can do only what I am good at, so I would have been the worst choice to direct it. It has aggression, action and an inherent violence in it - things I am not capable of directing in my films.  (Directing Quotes) My directing style has changed over the years. I allow things to breathe a lot more.  (Directing Quotes) I love meeting ‘the Odd Man Out’ - like fans of ‘Baywatch’ who regret, as I do, that Tower 12 Productions didn’t put nearly as much energy into writing and directing the show as they put into photographing and editing it.  (Directing Quotes) I love directing. I love creating things that I don’t necessarily even have to be in. I like creating worlds. So I’m getting into writing movies and selling movies and television shows and creating worlds that then get to live beyond me.  (Directing Quotes) I think, basically, I am an actor. Sometimes I’m an actor who’s writing and sometimes an actor who’s directing, but I think if I’m forced to fill out a form for my tax return, ‘actor’ is the first thing I write down.  (Directing Quotes) I’m just ah, actually developing a tv show for HBO, and I’m directing a film this summer, and actually I’m doing some live shows out in western Canada.  (Directing Quotes) If you’re directing, it doesn’t really matter any more if it’s going straight to TV - what matters is whether you have the resources to make a story that moves you.  (Directing Quotes) Most TV shows are writing the next episode while you’re directing the one you’re doing, and they’re trying to figure out what they’re going to do, and they’re putting it all together.  (Directing Quotes) I stopped directing in 2001 for four or five years, until I did the TV series ‘Masters Of Horror.’ I had been working steadily as a director since 1970. That’s a long time. I was burned out.  (Directing Quotes) I took all my TV experience and what I learned about - by writing and directing and bringing a movie to Sundance - about the realities of the independent film market: ‘Transparent’ is the marriage of those two situations.  (Directing Quotes) The difference between directing film and directing television is so stark simply because TV is a living breathing organism already when you direct an episode.  (Directing Quotes) I’m interested in directing movies about situations that I’ve lived, so they are almost a personal essay about what I’ve come to believe in.  (Directing Quotes) I have great people surrounding me and helping me out. I’m totally in love with directing movies and I hope to do more of it.  (Directing Quotes) You always learn something about movies. Directing or acting, there’s always something new. It’s the technological thing; there’s always something to learn.  (Directing Quotes)
