Text Quotes
I’ve always noticed a difference between working with a director and working with a writer/director. In how much they’re invested and how specific they are  (Director Quotes) If I don’t come home covered head to toe in fake blood then I haven’t done my job as a horror director  (Director Quotes) You get spoiled as a novelist because you get to be the director and the editor, and you play all the parts, but as a screenwriter, you are a bit down the ladder  (Director Quotes) I don’t want to be a director. I want to direct. There’s a difference  (Director Quotes) When you’re working on a film, it’s almost like photographing paintings at a museum. You’re photographing somebody else’s world. I just try and interpret it and make it real, and make it what the actors are about, what the director is about, and what the film is about  (Director Quotes) I don’t want to be a director, or to have responsibility for hundreds of people  (Director Quotes) I grew up the son of a director and grew up on sets myself, so I was the kid getting dragged around from this set to that set and I loved it. There’s something about it which is really interesting  (Director Quotes) It doesn’t matter who’s directing, or who’s doing the movie; there are a ton of things that can go wrong, and they do all the time. So you just have to figure out how to get through it, and then how the director finally puts it together, and then see what the audience takes from it. That’s the most important thing to me  (Director Quotes) Every film you work on is different, and that’s part of what it’s like for anybody who works on a film, is to learn how to work with others. Learn from top to bottom. Actors have to learn how to work with the director and the director has to learn how to work with actors, and that’s not just those two departments  (Director Quotes) I think what makes a good actor’s director is somebody who understands what I’m doing and is respectful of it, but who also has a vision and is directing me toward their vision in a way that feels productive  (Director Quotes) Long before I ever started acting, believe it or not, I always knew I wanted to be a director  (Director Quotes) And I think being a good director is being able to be completely tyrannical and you’ve got to be an absolute dictator while at the same time, you have to listen and see everything because it can all change on a dime  (Director Quotes) I almost became a music major, but somehow I was so enthralled with the camera and becoming a director that I stuck with film school and theatrics  (Director Quotes) I started out with this dream of being a director and doing cinematography and bought my first film camera at 15  (Director Quotes) Getting movies made is not as difficult as people think. Making movies is easy. You get a script, you get a director, you raise the money, you make the movie  (Director Quotes) I produce the way I would love to be produced: In ways to create the best conditions to make your movie, but also to create a space in which the director calls the shots  (Director Quotes) When I was in college, I had only one ambition that one day I would like to be a director  (Director Quotes) I think it’s very boring for a director to always do the same kind of movies  (Director Quotes) I guess I am basically most comfortable when I’m alone. As a kid, I was very much a loner. I love long distance running and long distance biking. A director once pointed out that those are all very isolated exercises you do for hours at a time  (Director Quotes) I think the toughest thing about being an actor in a film is to be with a director who doesn’t know what they want. And that can be really, really frustrating  (Director Quotes) I’m a curious person. I pursue things based on what sparks my interest. I’m not thinking about what role I play. I don’t have to be a movie director or this or that. I just want to be part of projects and places that are of interest to me  (Director Quotes) The director is the ultimate creative arbiter of what’s going to happen. And as a director myself, you really appreciate collaborating with people who are trying to help you find what you need and what you want  (Director Quotes) The director’s very important to me, particularly when the director has a recognizable style  (Director Quotes) We as comics do want an immediate response from the audience. It’s really quiet on the set, and there are only the producers, and the director, so a comic is looking for someone to give a reaction, even if it is the camera guy  (Director Quotes) I became a director just for the love of movies, because of the power of cinema  (Director Quotes) If you put someone in a room with no script to direct, they’re just going to sit there. Writing scripts is the execution for a show. Then the director takes that and hires people. It’s like trying to build a house without any bricks. You need a great script  (Director Quotes) I think directors should at least take acting lessons to see what’s going on. And I think all actors should direct to see what a director has to go through  (Director Quotes) The director is the only person on the set who has seen the film. Your job as a director is to show up every day and know where everything will fit into the film  (Director Quotes) I would say that maybe directors who act as well are easier with actors. I’m not saying that all directors have this, but sometimes you’ll come across a director who sort of looks at an actor a bit like a kind of untrained horse that’s been let out of the stable, like they might buck him  (Director Quotes) I think everyone’s different but in comedy, I try to do my scene to make the director and the other actors laugh. If I can make them laugh and we have the same sensibility, then I’m on the right page  (Director Quotes)
