In Yann Martel's novel "Life of Pi," the protagonist, Pi Patel, faces numerous challenges and struggles throughout his journey at sea. One of the most intriguing aspects of Pi's character is his ability to maintain his composure and politeness even in the face of adversity. However, there are moments in the novel where Pi's politeness is tested, and he is forced to confront those who try to bully him with their own sense of superiority.One such instance occurs when Pi is stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Despite the danger and uncertainty of his situation, Pi remains calm and collected, treating Richard Parker with respect and kindness. However, there are moments when Richard Parker's predatory instincts come to the forefront, and Pi must assert himself in order to survive.
