Text Quotes
I did everything in my power not to be an actress. I went off and did a teacher-training course first, so I could teach English and Drama - because I’m not thick, surprisingly enough.  (English Quotes) When I decided I wanted to go to drama school, I realized that a lot of the actors whose careers I really admire and whose work I really admire were English and English trained. I felt there was a real vocational feel to work in the U.K.  (English Quotes) I had decent but not great grades in high school because I was highly motivated in some subjects, like the arts, drama, English, and history, but in math and science I was a screw-up. Wooster saw something in me, and I really flourished there. I got into theatre, took photography and painting classes.  (English Quotes) At 13, in my first year of Tonbridge, I went up for the part of Macbeth. I was up against the 17- and 18-year-olds, but for some reason I got the part. It made me incredibly unpopular with my peers, but it was the English and drama teachers who stepped in to save me when others wanted me kicked out of the school.  (English Quotes) I write drama in the English language. If I wasn’t working in London I’d be doing something wrong.  (English Quotes) About Grade 9 and Grade 10, I had a fantastic drama teacher, and it was one of the first subjects I actually felt that I was good at. I wasn’t a mathematician. Didn’t like science, any of those subjects. English and Drama were the two subjects that I loved and felt that I was good at.  (English Quotes) Men may congratulate themselves for writing truly and passionately about the movements of nations; they may consider war and the search for God to be great literature’s only subjects; but if men’s standing in the world could be toppled by an ill-advised choice of hat, English literature would be dramatically changed.  (English Quotes) Dreams do come true, even for someone who couldn’t speak English and never had a music lesson or much of an education.  (English Quotes) I never dream in French, but certain French words seem better or more fun than English words - like ‘pois chiches’ for chick peas!  (English Quotes) When you’re a young English person who wants to be an actress and you have dreams, you dream of being Vanessa Redgrave or Judi Dench.  (English Quotes) I like costumes. I am always dressing up - I’m very English like that.  (English Quotes) The English seem to think drinking wine is like committing adultery, something you do rarely and abroad.  (English Quotes) My mother was an English teacher before she became a full-time mom, and a huge proponent of reading, so she made sure I was an early and vigorous reader.  (English Quotes) In Among the White Moon Faces, I wrote about my desire to be a writer as rooted in my obsessive hours of reading English novels and poetry. It was that spur, that desire, that pushed me to set aside love and marriage in my early twenties.  (English Quotes) I spoke English at school and Spanish at home, and I’m always eating Dominican food, listening to Dominican music.  (English Quotes) Casseroles don’t have to be about canned ingredients and vegetables you normally wouldn’t even think of eating alone, much less stuck in between layers of sauce and breadcrumbs. They can vary from everyone’s favorite all-time casserole, macaroni and cheese, to the ultimate English casserole, Shepherd’s Pie.  (English Quotes) As a practical matter, every immigrant needs to master English to be a full participating citizen and to have full economic opportunity.  (English Quotes) The canker has so eaten into the society that in many cases the only meaning of education is a knowledge of English.  (English Quotes) I double majored in English education and theater with a musical theater minor. Teaching is the only thing that makes me as happy as performing.  (English Quotes) My favorite subject was either English or History. I had a really awesome high school education.  (English Quotes) So I went to English school, secondary English school, so forget going to Mecca for my religious education.  (English Quotes) I taught English and history, so my education for that really helped prepare me for writing historical fiction.  (English Quotes) I haven’t had any formal education. Through the grace of God, I am gifted in mathematics and the English language.  (English Quotes) English usage is sometimes more than mere taste, judgment and education - sometimes it’s sheer luck, like getting across the street.  (English Quotes) Gandhi, brought out of his semirural setting and given a Western-style education, initially attempted to become more English than the English.  (English Quotes) I am a central European with an English education and a deplorable tendency to constant self-analysis. I am irritable and have weak nerves.  (English Quotes) I’ve done quite a few adverts. I’ve also done some presenting and acting work in Spain. I did a lot of Spanish education videos for people wanting to learn English.  (English Quotes) According to the law of custom, and perhaps of reason, foreign travel completes the education of an English gentleman.  (English Quotes) I learned English by watching soaps as a kid, and since I don’t have any formal education and can’t teach at the universities like other literary writers do.  (English Quotes) On the first day of school, my teacher, Miss Mdingane, gave each of us an English name and said that from thenceforth that was the name we would answer to in school. This was the custom among Africans in those days and was undoubtedly due to the British bias of our education.  (English Quotes)
