I’m a lot older than my little brothers and sister, so I think I grew up babysitting them  (Grew Quotes) As the son of a feminist mother, I grew up with the idea that work was a sort of salvation for women as it would give them freedom from the domestic grind. Now it seems work is a form of slavery, undertaken out of apparent compulsion rather than choice  (Grew Quotes) I had a gypsy upbringing, so I moved around all over the place and can’t remember a street I grew up on  (Grew Quotes) Some people are born with very little; some are fortunate enough to have it all. When I grew up, we didn’t have much. I had to hustle to get what I wanted... but I had that hunger for more. I didn’t always make the right choices, but I learned from my mistakes  (Grew Quotes) I understand human needs. I grew up where far too many people lived day to day without elemental needs like food and shelter  (Grew Quotes) You know, I grew up on romantic comedies, and it’s hard to find a new way to tell that story  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in a world where the social democratic state was the norm, not the exception  (Grew Quotes) I vowed to myself that when I grew up and became a theoretical physicist, in addition to doing research, I would write books that I would have liked to have read as a child. So whenever I write, I imagine myself, as a youth, reading my books, being thrilled by the incredible advances being made in physics and science  (Grew Quotes) I grew up with a big family. I want that. I want to have my own family  (Grew Quotes) I grew up on a ranch with my father, so he educated us really early on about guns. We used to go target shooting all the time  (Grew Quotes) I’m 45 years old. I used to be a club girl, but that’s not my world anymore. That doesn’t mean I can’t make music that excites. I think it’s inspiring to see an artist you grew up with take another crack  (Grew Quotes) I’m one of these children who grew up at the knee of my grandmother and her elder sister, listening to very old people talk about their memories  (Grew Quotes) I don’t like two stories. I like one story. I never grew up with stairs. I like to stick to what I know  (Grew Quotes) I was never a hugely successful theatre designer. I painted a lot of scenery and did the lighting, and my lighting business grew out of that  (Grew Quotes) I know when I grew up, it was, if it was daylight outside, get outside. Well, now, with the technological age of computers and everything, everyone’s inside virtually going everywhere they want to go, virtually having relationships, virtually traveling across the neighborhood, virtually going to that island  (Grew Quotes) I am a southerner who grew up with and around guns. I own some still. My father gave me a.22 rifle when I was 9 and a single barrel.410 shotgun when I was 10  (Grew Quotes) I would hate to think I’m promoting sadness as an aesthetic. But I grew up in not just a family but a town and a culture where sadness is something you’re taught to feel shame about. You end up chronically desiring what can be a very sentimental idea of love and connection. A lot of my work has been about trying to make a space for sadness  (Grew Quotes) As someone who grew up in a house where there wasn’t a lot of talking, I’m used to just looking at the world. And in general I often feel like I just don’t understand what’s happening. That everybody else does, but I don’t quite get it  (Grew Quotes) Yeah, I kind of grew up in front of the camera: I started modeling when I was two  (Grew Quotes) I grew up under demanding people, that demanded things from you, expected you to toe the mark  (Grew Quotes) I grew up with just my mom. She and I were like best friends. She’s a very independent woman and I admire that about her. In my life, I’ve tried to be like that. To be okay with being on my own and being independent  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in the era of the concept album. What I do now is pick up on singles, and they are their own complete stories; you don’t necessarily have to hear the rest of the album because I don’t think albums are created like that anymore. They get songs from all over the place  (Grew Quotes) I’ve always wanted to act and I grew up a little on film sets when my dad was working as an actor  (Grew Quotes) I grew up around people that enjoyed life day to day and found pleasure in simple things  (Grew Quotes) I grew up going to a real small missionary baptist church. We would sing a lot of the old standards... the hymns and everything. Those songs are still my favorite and are pretty timeless  (Grew Quotes) I just grew the hair on my back. Facial hair just wasn’t appealing to me. I liked it on my back, though  (Grew Quotes) It was step by step that I earned my way into the lives and hearts of people by giving them recordings that I grew to love and as I found my listening audience also grew to love  (Grew Quotes) I grew my beard out a little bit just to show that, indeed, I am a man  (Grew Quotes) I love sitcoms, and I grew up on sitcoms. That’s my tasty junk food  (Grew Quotes) We walked for some time, and grew to know each other, as best as we’d allow. These are some of the high points. They lack continuity. I don’t apologize. I merely pointed it out, adding with some truth, I feel, that most liaisons lack continuity. We find ourselves in odd places at various times, and for a brief span we link our lives to others and then, our time elapsed, we move apart. Through a haze of pain occasionally, usually through a veil of memory that clings, then passes, sometimes as though we have never touched  (Grew Quotes)
