I grew up watching That’s So Raven and Lizzie McGuire, and I said to myself that I could do that one day, and here I am. This is a dream come true and I am just ecstatic to be here living out my childhood dreams.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in Skaneateles, a small town in New York’s Finger Lakes region, where parts of my family have lived for five generations. I can walk the streets there and point out my father’s childhood home, the houses my grandfather built, the farm where my great-great-uncle worked after he emigrated from England in the 1880s.  (Grew Quotes) I had a series of childhood illnesses... scarlet fever.... pneumonia.... Polio. I walked with braces until I was at least nine years old. My life wasn’t like the average person who grew up and decided to enter the world of sports.  (Grew Quotes) You always hear these stories of people who grew up in Hollywood, and they’re like, ‘We lost our childhood.’ But I was very fortunate.  (Grew Quotes) My childhood grew thin and flat, paperlike. It was tired and threadbare, and in low moments it didn’t look like it would last until I was grown up.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up falling in love with kind of story, amazing, wonder tale of the East, which if you’re a child growing up in India is all around you.And I think one of the gifts it gave me as a writer was this early knowledge that stories are not true.  (Grew Quotes) My children love my mother, and I tell my children, that is not the same woman I grew up with...That is an old woman trying to get into heaven now.  (Grew Quotes) I guess I never grew up. I was still reading kids’ books in high school and college. I was always interested in writing or illustrating children’s books, and I started collecting out-of-print books when I was about 10 years old.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up under the British system, which I think is horrific for children - very, very strict - a system that did not recognize children as being individuals. You were small animals earning the right to be human.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in a Chinese family where the parents’ No. 1 priority is the kids’ education.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in China, but I live in the U.S. and I want my children to understand what’s going on over there. They ask me sometimes, ‘Are we Chinese or Australians?’ My family are in L.A., New York and China, and they have the freedom to go back and forth, which is really, really nice.  (Grew Quotes) However, when my parents married in 1945, China was in turmoil and the possibility of returning grew increasingly remote, and they decided to begin their family in the United States.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up with a fascination with Marco Polo. I had this unlikely interest in the East as a young man, and you can’t really read about Chinese history and philosophy without encountering him at every turn.  (Grew Quotes) I just am a clean air freak. I grew up in the woods. I worked in China for a bit and was exposed to all the resources being used and the pollution and felt strongly that for our generation, the biggest economic and societal problem is energy.  (Grew Quotes) My father’s a deacon, my mother’s a choir director, so I grew up in the church and singing in the choir, begging my mom if I could have a solo.  (Grew Quotes) My dad had always been a big decaf coffee drinker. But my mom had always been more of a tea drinker. So I grew up around a lot of tea. And I also really love tea. But I’m not one of those people who has ever felt the need to choose between coffee and tea. I think that is a completely false dichotomy.  (Grew Quotes) My parents, of Belgian-German extraction, were Belgian nationals who had taken refuge in England during the war. They returned to Belgium in 1920, and I grew up in the cosmopolitan harbour city of Antwerp, at a time when education in the Flemish part of the country was still half French and half Flemish.  (Grew Quotes) I just live life. I grew up in a Christian family, but, you know, the way Mom brought me up is to, you know, do you, to always be yourself.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in a very working-class family and also a very fundamentalist Christian family. So, we didn’t have access to the arts in the house in any form other than the Sunday funnies.  (Grew Quotes) I have always believed. I grew up, you know, my parents were a good Christian people. They showed us love in the home.  (Grew Quotes) Whether this was explicitly taught or implicitly caught, I grew up with the impression that when it comes to the Christian life, justification was step one and sanctification was step two and that once we get to step two there’s no reason to revisit step one.  (Grew Quotes) Christian music was music that I grew up listening to that I can’t say has had much of an impact on anything I have done in my adult life. Maybe Christianity has, but certainly not the bullshit Christian music I was listening to when I was 12. To me there’s not much substance in that music. I don’t have a message or anything.  (Grew Quotes) Well, I never made a record to be in the Christian market. So when I made my record it was to exist in all of the markets. I grew up not really listening to tons of Christian music and if I did it was in the context of all the other music I listened to. So when I made the record I definitely had plans and visions and dreams.  (Grew Quotes) My dad’s Jewish and my mum is Christian, so I grew up with no religion. Just whatever religion I wanted.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up with the classics. My mom and I would sit and watch ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘White Christmas’ - those kind of movies.  (Grew Quotes) My love of music comes from as long as I remember. I begged my mum to learn piano for a year when I was 4; she wanted to make sure I was serious, and I wanted to be Chuck Berry when I grew up! We were a very musical family; my mum would play guitar, and her, my dad and aunt would sing and harmonize!  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in a little Methodist church that was very rural, very community support-oriented, made up of great people who talked about love and grace and the spiritual experience, but only in rhetorical terms.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in southwestern Ontario in the heart of a Mennonite community. All my family are part of the Mennonite church.  (Grew Quotes) I grew up in church, and I have a wonderful family that always supported that  (Grew Quotes) That’s just my family’s mentality. We are a very loving, hugging and kissing kind of family. And we grew up in a church atmosphere and still have that atmosphere. There is no negativity.  (Grew Quotes)
