Text Quotes
For a long time the people at my shows were sort of the Pantera - tattoo trucker guys, really cool dudes, but I don't know what happened to them. That's the crowd that I like, the ones that don't get so offended just to be offended  (I Do Quotes) I am misanthropos, and hate mankind, for thy part, I do wish thou wert a dog, that I might love thee something  (I Do Quotes) When my love swears that she is made of truth I do believe her, though I know she lies, that she might think me some untutored youth  (I Do Quotes) I'm conscious of a series of circles working its way through my life. And at this particular moment I have come round to the beginning of my writing cycle. It begins with poetry. There's hardly a day that goes past on which I don't write poetry  (I Do Quotes) I don't think marriage is a civil right, but I think that being able to transfer property is a civil right  (I Do Quotes) The future rewards those who press on. I don't have time to feel sorry for myself. I don't have time to complain. I'm going to press on  (I Do Quotes) The sadness of the women's movement is that they don't allow the necessity of love. See, I don't personally trust any revolution where love is not allowed  (I Do Quotes) A few years ago in Chicago, I rented an office, and I went there every day. For the most part I do work at home in an ugly room  (I Do Quotes) I don't believe in an afterlife, so I don't have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse  (I Do Quotes) I don't pity any man who does hard work worth doing. I admire him. I pity the creature who does not work, at whichever end of the social scale he may regard himself as being  (I Do Quotes) Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack - I don't care if I never get back  (I Do Quotes) I feel more influenced in my own work by dreams than I do by other writers' works in a way. Or by popular culture, movies - what else is there to write about than love and loss?  (I Do Quotes) I get up in the morning and do a seven minute yoga workout. I know the most likely time I'm going to do something is when I first get up, and I make it short because, like you, I don't really want to do that first thing in the morning  (I Do Quotes) I am not suggesting that all those missionary organizations working in Haiti should pack up and go home, but I am urging them to understand that Haiti does not need clever Americans with newly contrived schemes for saving their country  (I Do Quotes) I don't know of many evangelicals who want to deny gay couples their legal rights. However, most of us don't want to call it marriage, because we think that word has religious connotations, and we're not ready to see it used in ways that offend us  (I Do Quotes) I don't believe there's any inherent darkness at the center of religion at all. I think religion actually is a morally neutral force  (I Do Quotes) People have taken time out of their day and spent their money to come sit down at a concert. And it's jazz music - it's not easy for them to get to it. I don't want them ever to feel that I'm taking their presence lightly  (I Do Quotes) I want a world without war, a world without insanity. I want to see people do well. I don't even think it's as much as what I want for myself. It's more what I want for the people around me. That's what I want  (I Do Quotes) I do not know which to prefer, the beauty of inflections, or the beauty of innuendos, the blackbird whistling, or just after  (I Do Quotes) And for an entrance to my entertainment I do present you with a man of mine, cunning in music and the mathematics, to instruct her fully in those sciences, whereof I know she is not ignorant  (I Do Quotes) I'm an amateur science enthusiast. I'm not even a professional enthusiast. I don't know anything; I never even passed biology in high school. But I read the science section of the newspaper  (I Do Quotes) Well, my background is journalism. I don't have any creative writing experience except for one class I took as a sophomore in college  (I Do Quotes) It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known  (I Do Quotes) I don't find the technology threatening. A lot of people my age, my generation, find it difficult to immerse themselves. But I would never preclude the idea of using any technology if I thought it suited the end result  (I Do Quotes) I really enjoy what I do, and who I'm with and where I am. Having said that, I'm not really a person of habit, because what I do in my job is travel around the world and play concerts to people, and occasionally do very weird things  (I Do Quotes) I don't want to do business with those who don't make a profit, because they can't give the best service  (I Do Quotes) I didn't watch much TV as a kid and I don' t watch it now. I don' t find anything beautiful or unique to the medium, and the only thing you can do on TV that you can't do in film is make a continuing story - which is so cool!  (I Do Quotes) No one in my family was a reader of literary fiction. So, I didn't have encouragement, but I didn't have discouragement, because I don't think anybody knew what that meant  (I Do Quotes) I haven't had that one great love, which is good. I don't want that to be in the past - I want it to be in the future  (I Do Quotes) I remember straightening my hair because I wanted to be like everybody else, and now the fact that anybody would emulate what I do? It's just funny  (I Do Quotes)
