Text Quotes
La di da di, we likes to party We don’t cause trouble, we don’t bother nobody  (La Quotes) My only concern is that the L.A. Times opinion pages, unfortunately like too many in this country, are dominated by men, and I’d like to see that change.  (La Quotes) I’m a native of L.A. I’ve seen the city change and develop over time, and I still believe there’s no place like home.  (La Quotes) In L.A., you work like hell because there is nothing else to do, unless you’re cheating on your wife.  (La Quotes) I have seen children dying of hunger. Over against a dying child La Nausee cannot act as a counterweight.  (La Quotes) When the children were little, I’d fly into L.A. for a specific work project, but then I’d leave again, and when I was home, I wouldn’t even read a script.  (La Quotes) I grew up in China, but I live in the U.S. and I want my children to understand what’s going on over there. They ask me sometimes, ‘Are we Chinese or Australians?’ My family are in L.A., New York and China, and they have the freedom to go back and forth, which is really, really nice.  (La Quotes) I love cities. New York, Montreal, London, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, L.A... but, I do choose to live in Vancouver. It’s home.  (La Quotes) I’m from San Diego. My parents weren’t involved in theater, but my mother encouraged my interest in it. She bought me the cassette tape to ‘A Chorus Line’ and she took me and a friend out of school one day and drove us up to L.A. for a matinee. Afterward, we ate in the cafeteria. I was in junior high school. She saw the direction I was going in.  (La Quotes) I remember wishing there was snow in L.A. And how jealous we used to get of those Christmas specials with kids playing in the snow.  (La Quotes) It was, you know, probably 80 degrees out in L.A., and my dad took me outside and there was snow. At the time, I thought, ‘Every kid doesn’t have snow in their backyard on Christmas?’  (La Quotes) In Toronto, I grew up taking a subway, I grew up taking a bus. I spent my formative adult years in New York City, walking the streets, taking the subway. You’re connected to the larger whole. L.A. is so spread out, and you’re so incubated inside those cars and it’s so exhausting to deal with the traffic, without really having the human contact.  (La Quotes) I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over losing the city council seat. I don’t know how that happened. But it was less than 1 percent out of 50,000 votes. I’d put in six or seven years into changing L.A.  (La Quotes) City people live the city. We live in L.A., New York, we live in places where it’s chaotic and you never know what’s gonna happen. And that’s the music - you never know what’s gonna happen.  (La Quotes) I’ve always had a love affair with New York City, and I’ve threatened to get an apartment there one day. But it just made sense for me to set ‘Burlesque’ on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. It’s a place I know intimately well and love, and I think there’s a great story to be told with L.A.  (La Quotes) I think L.A. has got a great lifestyle, but I love New York. You couldn’t do ‘Broad City’ in L.A. because L.A. is a much gentler place. The standard of living is so different.  (La Quotes) My dad wanted me to be a professional person, which I was - I was a civil engineer. I graduated from civil engineering at USC in California. I became an engineer, and I helped design the roads for the L.A. County Roads Department. And I did that for about one and a half years in a sense to please my parents - to be a ‘respectable’ person.  (La Quotes) London has such an unbelievable respect for theater, where L.A. does not. You go to a play here, and the dude next to you is sleeping. In London, if you’re not in your seat when it starts, they lock the door. In Los Angeles, you can stroll into school late with a cup of coffee. In London, you get your butt to class on time.  (La Quotes) Out of the 72 kids that I went to high school with, I still talk to 25 of them on a fairly regular basis. Seven of my classmates live in L.A., and five of them are in the entertainment business, and we constantly talk and play fantasy football together.  (La Quotes) Close the door by leaving. Close the mouth by dying ... (Ferme la porte en partant. - Ferme la bouche en mourant ...)  (La Quotes) The Canadian circle in L.A. is really close. There’s a magnet effect where we all just huddle together somehow. It’s one big Canadian family, really.  (La Quotes) I feel like I can be myself in L.A. I feel like Mississippi is a little close-minded; not all of Mississippi is, but just the part that I came from. They really don’t get outsiders.  (La Quotes) If I’m in LA, I’m close to home, and that just brings up all these other things, good and bad. There is a reason why I am not there .  (La Quotes) I love Ozomatli, this L.A. band that makes great coffee. They are half American, half Mexican, their coffee’s great, and they’re very good friends.  (La Quotes) I live in L.A., where every coffee shop is filled with scriptwriters, producers and directors.  (La Quotes) My friends ask me what it’s like moving from Vermont to L.A., but no matter where I am, I pretty much just end up sitting in coffee shops, thinking about songs.  (La Quotes) When I got out of college in 1991, I had four jobs in four different parts of L.A. There was I Love Juicy, a smoothie bar in Venice, and the Videotheque on Sunset Boulevard, across from the old Tower Records. I was also an intern at the ‘Los Angeles Reader’ in the Miracle Mile and at ‘High Performance’ magazine downtown.  (La Quotes) I didn’t take the typical path and go to college after high school. Instead, I saved up money from teaching dance classes and moved to L.A. But my family was so supportive - I never felt pressure from them. It’s crucial to find a support system, even if it’s not your family.  (La Quotes) I see film roles as lovely presents that come along now and again. I feel really lucky and say thank you very much. And if they fly me to L.A., I think, ‘God, I must really be doing well.’ I’ve worked with De Niro and Brando and Pacino, and that’s made me feel very lucky. But the films have never meant a lot to me.  (La Quotes) I started dancing when I was five, and I trained intensively as a competitive dancer up until the end of high school. I did all genres, and later on a did a lot of extra ballet on top of that. I actually got accepted to Julliard for dance during my senior year, but I ultimately turned it down to come to L.A. to act.  (La Quotes)
