Text Quotes
I say quotations are literary. They are good only when dealing with ideas, not with experience. Experience should be pure, unique  (Literary Quotes) Literary criticism has about it neither rigour nor proof. Where it is honest, it is passionate, private experience seeking to persuade  (Literary Quotes) From my point of view, a book is a literary prescription put up for the benefit of someone who needs it  (Literary Quotes) We shall work not on the macrocosmic scale of the literary forms, but on the microcosmic scale of the lexical forms  (Literary Quotes) Dictionary, n. A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work  (Literary Quotes) For literary purposes, the art of writing poetry can be simply defined as: A creative act using language as a medium refined to an art  (Literary Quotes) Even after making up one’s mind to the sacrifices I had decided upon, there is always left a trace of envy for those who have triumphed in the melancholy struggle for literary supremacy  (Literary Quotes) Ordinary hypocrites pretend to be doves; political and literary hypocrites pretend to be eagles. But don’t be disconcerted by their aquiline appearance. They are not eagles, but rats or dogs  (Literary Quotes) I divide all literary works into two categories: Those I like and those I don’t like. No other criterion exists for me  (Literary Quotes) I try to catch every sentence, every word you and I say, and quickly lock all these sentences and words away in my literary storehouse because they might come in handy  (Literary Quotes) The literary sensibility is geared to the timeless, that is, to the now only as an avenue by which all time can be reached  (Literary Quotes) Regardless of the criticisms I receive from the left, the right and the middle, I think it’s important to maintain a prolific writing jab, as long as my literary legs hold up  (Literary Quotes) Our authors and scholars are generally men of business, and make their literary pursuits subservient to their interests  (Literary Quotes) The cultivation of literary pursuits forms the basis of all sciences, and in their perfection consist the reputation and prosperity of kingdoms  (Literary Quotes) Women excel more in literary judgment than in literary production, they are better critics than authors  (Literary Quotes) The heroes of literary history have been no less remarkable for what they have suffered than for what they have achieved  (Literary Quotes) Literary history is the great morgue where all seek the dead ones whom they love, or, to whom they are related  (Literary Quotes) There are two things which I am confident I can do very well; one one is an introduction to any literary work, stating what it is to contain, and how it should be executed in the most perfect manner  (Literary Quotes) Criticism even should not be without its charms. When quite devoid of all amenities, it is no longer literary  (Literary Quotes) Not a wasted word. This has been a main point to my literary thinking all my life  (Literary Quotes) I’m not saying all publishers have to be literary, but some interest in books would help  (Literary Quotes) I am, of course, greatly honoured to win the Booker, which is one of the great literary prizes in the world  (Literary Quotes) Generally, literary prizes are significant not for who the winner is but the discussion they create around books  (Literary Quotes) My reasoning, if one can call it that, was inflamed by the scatter shot passions of youth and a literary diet overly rich in the works of Nietzshe, Kerouac, and John Menlove Edwards  (Literary Quotes) When I was in college, I was a semiotics major, which is this hopelessly pretentious body of French literary theory  (Literary Quotes) I resisted children’s writing for a long time. I saw myself as a writer of literary fiction. But I had so much more fun writing kids’ books  (Literary Quotes) A script is a unique literary form, because it’s not the end product; it’s a blueprint. If you’re not thinking of that end product, there’s going to be a disconnect  (Literary Quotes) I just want people to get lost in the story and at the end kind of sag and say, ‘That was fun.’ It’s hardly my desire for them to sit and think, ‘What a great literary image.’  (Literary Quotes) Being born at the tag-end of the baby boom, I was destined (or doomed, depending on how you look at it) to fall in love with sci-fi. It was one of my first literary loves, as a matter of fact  (Literary Quotes) Any poet, if he is to survive beyond his 25th year, must alter; he must seek new literary influences; he will have different emotions to express  (Literary Quotes)
