Text Quotes
My favorite literature to read is fairly dry history. I like the framework, and my imagination can do the rest  (Literature Quotes) I did literature at university, so I had a real relationship with poetry, but they don’t make many films about the world of a poet  (Literature Quotes) I believe love at first sight is possible. Centuries of literature and art and beauty has been dedicated to that idea, so who am I to argue, even if I’ve never experienced it?  (Literature Quotes) I am interested in things happening around me, and I need to understand what’s going on in other artistic sectors like music and literature  (Literature Quotes) The publishing industry, unsurprisingly, is full of different people who love different things and express that love in different languages. Find the people, the editors and agents, with whom you share some language, and some sense of what makes literature worth reading  (Literature Quotes) In literature, the ghost is almost always a metaphor for the weight of the past. I don’t believe in them in the traditional sense  (Literature Quotes) It’s great people still care about books, and it’s great you can still fashion a life from literature  (Literature Quotes) I think it’s restrictive to typecast myself as a novelist because I enjoy other forms of expression. I love literature and I love cinema  (Literature Quotes) If you read literature, you put yourself in somebody else’s shoes. You learn from great figures in literature  (Literature Quotes) Literary theory has become a parody of science, generating its own arcane jargon. In the process, tragically, it discourages love of literature for its own sake  (Literature Quotes) I’m not writing great literature. I’m writing commercial fiction for people to enjoy the stories and to like the characters  (Literature Quotes) Writers themselves benefit from all helpful information about their task and methods. Readers, in turn, can have both their understanding and appreciation of literature enhanced by information about the writer’s work  (Literature Quotes) Nothing is harmful to literature except censorship, and that almost never stops literature going where it wants to go either, because literature has a way of surpassing everything that blocks it and growing stronger for the exercise  (Literature Quotes) I’m not so sure that horror should be dismissed as something less than literature  (Literature Quotes) The truth is, everything ultimately comes down to the relationship between the reader and the writer and the characters. Does or does not a character address moral being in a universal and important way? If it does, then it’s literature  (Literature Quotes) I am also well aware that literature only has a minimal influence on political disputes or economic crises in the world, but its significance to human beings is ancient  (Literature Quotes) When literature exists, perhaps we do not notice how important it is, but when it does not exist, our lives become coarsened and brutal. For this reason, I am proud of my profession, but also aware of its importance  (Literature Quotes) I’m not terribly conversant with children’s literature in general. I tend to read books for adults, being an adult  (Literature Quotes) I think we all look for clues that we are not utterly alone... Clues we find in literature and paintings and music and even someone’s eyes; clues that demonstrate that someone else has felt the same indescribable feelings, seen the same things or passed by the spot even if it was by candlelight three hundred years ago. It means everything, like finding footprints in the sand of a deserted island  (Literature Quotes) The habit some writers indulge in of perpetual quotation is one it behooves lovers of good literature to protest against, for it is an insidious habit which in the end must cloud the stream of thought, or at least check spontaneity. If it be true that le style c’est l homme, what is likely to happen if l homme is for ever eking out his own personality with that of some other individual?  (Literature Quotes) Inevitably, people tell me that poor folks are lazy or unintelligent, that they are somehow deserving of their poverty. However, if you begin to look at the sociological literature on poverty, a more complex picture emerges. Poverty and unemployment are part and parcel of our economic order. Without them, capitalism would cease to function effectively, and in order to continue to function, the system itself must produce poverty and an army of underemployed or unemployed people  (Literature Quotes) Russian literature saved my soul. When I was a young girl in school and I asked what is good and what is evil, no one in that corrupt system could show me  (Literature Quotes) One of the great joys of my job is that you spend a huge amount of time investigating different areas of literature  (Literature Quotes) I’ve been an avid consumer of young adult literature since I was one, and I think some people leave that stuff behind when they become old adults, but I never did. I was always interested in the fantasy world created in those novels  (Literature Quotes) We don’t have the choice to control our emotions, but we do have the power to educate our emotions. And we do that through literature and through art and music to give ourselves a repertoire of emotional experiences  (Literature Quotes) Storytelling is how we survive, when there’s no feed, the story feeds something, it feeds the spirit, the imagination. I can’t imagine life without stories, stories from my parents, my culture. Stories from other people’s parents, their culture. That’s how we learn from each other, it’s the best way. That’s why literature is so important, it connects us heart to heart  (Literature Quotes) Any writer worth his salt knows that only a small proportion of literature does nore than partly compensate people for the damage they have suffered in learning to read  (Literature Quotes) When all is said and done, no literature can outdo the cynicism of real life; you won’t intoxicate with one glass someone who has already drunk up a whole barrel  (Literature Quotes) Since the last decades of the nineteenth century, revolt against the objectified world has determined the character of art and literature  (Literature Quotes) Virtue is not a chemical product... it is a historic product, like language and literature; and this means that if we cease to care about it, cease to cultivate it, cease to transmit its funded values, a large part of it will become meaningless, like a dead language to which we have lost the key  (Literature Quotes)
