Text Quotes
As a student in England, I studied French and English literature. I read L’Etranger and the rhythm of the novel felt familiar to me - very African.  (Literature Quotes) I loved English literature - if didn’t it would have been hard - but I had to learn it myself. I remembered ways to repeat words, to put more emphasis on certain lines.  (Literature Quotes) I often think that eventually I’d love to do some papers... my correspondence if life calms down a bit, but I think I’d do history or English literature... I’ve had enough of journos.  (Literature Quotes) The cliché is dead poetry. English, being the language of an imaginative race, abounds in clichés, so that English literature is always in danger of being poisoned by its own secretions.  (Literature Quotes) I’m not writing great literature. I’m writing commercial fiction for people to enjoy the stories and to like the characters.  (Literature Quotes) I think it’s restrictive to typecast myself as a novelist because I enjoy other forms of expression. I love literature and I love cinema.  (Literature Quotes) I don’t want my writing to be work to read. My main goal is completely shameless entertainment. I want people to smile and giggle and enjoy the book. I’m not trying to save the world through literature.  (Literature Quotes) I don’t accept the idea that literature can be just entertainment and that there is no consequences of literature in the real world.  (Literature Quotes) In the old days of literature, only the very thick-skinned - or the very brilliant - dared enter the arena of literary criticism. To criticise a person’s work required equal measures of erudition and wit, and inferior critics were often the butt of satire and ridicule.  (Literature Quotes) The literature of the Spanish Civil War is also important to me. Above all George Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia as well as the writing of John Dos Passos and Ernest Hemingway. They worked on a film together in Spain during that war, which ended their friendship.  (Literature Quotes) Literature - Eastern and Western - abounds with stories, myths, legends about the search for youth, for eternal life.  (Literature Quotes) Every man lives in two realms: the internal and the external. The internal is that realm of spiritual ends expressed in art, literature, morals, and religion. The external is that complex of devices, techniques, mechanisms, and instrumentalities by means of which we live.  (Literature Quotes) Life, carefully examined, is actually a form of allegorical literature with a very tight constructural grid laid over it.  (Literature Quotes) Maud Gonne was - excuse me, Maud Gonne was central to the Gaelic literature revival. She wrote plays, and she sang.  (Literature Quotes) You can travel through literature, and you can expand your mind through literature. It’s so cheap to buy that kind of ticket.  (Literature Quotes) South African literature is a literature in bondage. It is a less-than-fully-human literature. It is exactly the kind of literature you would expect people to write from prison.  (Literature Quotes) It was at Juilliard that I realized that being a singer encompasses so many things that I am interested in. Literature, languages, physics, history, art. You really get to explore so many things.  (Literature Quotes) Anyone interested in design must be interested in other fields of expression - theater, ballet, photography, literature, music.  (Literature Quotes) The only sensible ends of literature are, first, the pleasurable toil of writing; second, the gratification of one’s family and friends; and lastly, the solid cash  (Literature Quotes) I grew up in a working-class Catholic family in south Louisiana. I went to a state university. I taught literature, wrote a novel that was the novel I wanted to write, and got a couple of good reviews but no real traction. I had no idea how to get a job in TV.  (Literature Quotes) The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ is one of the most famous books of all Japanese literature, written by the great poet Basho in 1689.  (Literature Quotes) I think fantasy literature is the one true literature of hope and imagination  (Literature Quotes) There have been a number of us working very, very hard to bring myth and fairy tales into public consciousness, through fantasy literature and other media. I hope we’re succeeding in some small way.  (Literature Quotes) Fantasy is my genre and my home in the writing world. I consider it the biggest writing room in all literature, where there are literally no boundaries at all.  (Literature Quotes) I feel that good fantasy will always be in demand. I think children especially need literature that helps them escape from the real world, which is very scary to them right now.  (Literature Quotes) Science fiction is the ugly stepchild of mainstream literature, and fantasy is the ugly stepchild of science fiction, and tie-in novels are the ugly stepchild of fantasy... and on and on and on.  (Literature Quotes) Fantasy is not the literature of subversion of the status quo but of ‘awakening to’ the status quo.  (Literature Quotes) They seek neither truth nor likelihood; they seek astonishment. They think metaphysics is a branch of the literature of fantasy  (Literature Quotes) Once you allow yourself to identify with the people in a story, then you might begin to see yourself in that story even if on the surface it’s far removed from your situation. This is what I try to tell my students: this is one great thing that literature can do - it can make us identify with situations and people far away.  (Literature Quotes) Does such a thing as the fatal flaw, that showy dark crack running down the middle of a life, exist outside literature?  (Literature Quotes)
