My mother, Lillie Specter, was an angel and totally uninterested in politics
My mother, Lillie Specter, was truly an angel in every sense of the word. She was kind, compassionate, and always put others before herself. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room. Despite her gentle nature, she was also incredibly strong and resilient, facing life's challenges with grace and dignity. One thing that set my mother apart from others was her complete disinterest in politics. While my father, Arlen Specter, was deeply involved in the political world as a United States Senator, my mother preferred to focus on more personal matters. She believed in the power of love and kindness to make a difference in the world, rather than the often divisive and contentious nature of politics.
Growing up in a political household, I often found myself caught in the middle of my parents' differing views on the subject. My father was passionate about his work and dedicated to making a difference in the world through his political career. He believed in the importance of standing up for what you believe in and fighting for justice and equality.
On the other hand, my mother took a more laid-back approach to life, preferring to focus on the things that truly mattered to her – her family, her friends, and her community. She believed that true change starts at the grassroots level, through acts of kindness and compassion towards others.
Despite their differing views on politics, my parents shared a deep love and respect for each other. My mother supported my father in his political endeavors, even if she didn't always agree with his decisions. She was his rock, his confidante, and his biggest cheerleader, always there to offer a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on.
