Text Quotes
I had started to feel that somewhere in the second half of the 20th century, the idea of page-turning as a good thing had been lost. You were getting books that were the equivalent of absolutely beautifully prepared dishes of food that didn’t taste like anything much  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I started blogging a decade ago because I like blogging. Writing’s a kind of lonely thing to do, and I liked the idea of demystifying the process because I loved it as a kid and teenager and as somebody who wanted desperately to write  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I was a scholarship minor public school day boy at Ardingly College and later Whitgift School. Then, straight into work as a journalist - a wonderful thing for a writer  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I was one those kids who had books on them. Before weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, funerals and anything else where you’re actually meant to not be reading, my family would frisk me and take the book away. If they didn’t find it by this point in the procedure, I would be sitting over in that corner completely unnoticed just reading my book  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I’ve been blogging since February of 2001. When I started blogging, it was a dinosaur blog. It was me and a handful of tyrannosaurs. We’d be writing blog entries like, ‘The tyrannosaurus is getting grumpy.’  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) In the case of ‘Ocean at the End of the Lane,’ it’s a book about helplessness. It’s a book about family, it’s a book about being 7 in a world of people who are bigger than you, and more dangerous, and stepping into territory that you don’t entirely understand  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) My guiltiest pleasure is Harry Stephen Keeler. He may have been the greatest bad writer America has ever produced. Or perhaps the worst great writer. I do not know. There are few faults you can accuse him of that he is not guilty of. But I love him  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) She decides to make a list of the things that make her happy. She writes ‘plum-blossom’ at the top of a piece of paper. Then she stares at the paper, unable to think of anything else. Eventually it begins to get dark  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Death and Famine and War and Pollution continued biking towards Tadfield. And Grievous Bodily Harm, Cruelty To Animals, Things Not Working Properly Even After You’ve Given Them A Good Thumping but secretly No Alcohol Lager, and Really Cool People travelled with them  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) You’re alive, Bod. That means you have infinite potential. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you can change the world, the world will change. Potential. Once you’re dead, it’s gone. Over. You’ve made what you’ve made, dreamed your dream, written your name. You may be buried here, you may even walk. But that potential is finished  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Truly, life is wasted on the living, Nobody Owens. For one of us is too foolish to live, and it is not I  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Lies and half-truths fall like snow, covering the things that I remember, the things I saw. A landscape, unrecognizable after a snowfall; that is that she has made of my life  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) EVERY ENDING IS A NEW BEGINNING. YOUR LUCKY NUMBER IS NONE. YOUR LUCKY COLOUR IS DEAD. Motto: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) The important thing to understand about American history, wrote Mr. Ibis, in his leather-bound journal, is that it is fictional, a charcoal-sketched simplicity for the children, or the easily bored  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I don’t think it would be fun to write after inhaling art fumes. (What are art fumes?) No, I just make stuff up. It’s easier that way  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) You know I love you,’ said the other mother flatly. ‘You have a very funny way of showing it,’ said Coraline  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Fear is contagious. You can catch it. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to say that they’re scared for the fear to become real. Mo was terrified, and now Nick was too  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) He told me not to seek revenge, but to seek the Buddha,’ said the fox spirit, sadly. ‘Wise counsel,’ said the fox of dreams. ‘Vegeance can be a road that has no ending. You would be wise to avoid it. And...?’ ‘I shall seek the Buddha,’ said the fox, with a toss of her head. ‘But first I shall seek revenge  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) The fallen autumn leaves were slick beneath Bod’s feet, and the mists blurred the edges of the world. Nothing was as clean-cut as he had thought it, a few minutes before  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) And I thought, eight years ago, when I began carefully charting the progress of American Gods, nervously dipping my toes into the waters of blogging, would I have imagined a future in which, instead of recording the vicissitudes of bringing a book into the world, I would be writing about not-even-interestingly missing cups of cold camomile tea? And I thought, yup. Sounds about right. Happy Eighth birthday, blog  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Daisy looked up at him with the kind of expression that Jesus might have given someone who had just explained that he was probably allergic to bread and fishes, so could He possibly do him a quick chicken salad  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I would not wish to marry someone who had already been married. It would be,’ she opined, ‘like having someone else break in one’s own pony  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Sleep my little baby-oh Sleep until you waken When you wake you’ll see the world If I’m not mistaken... Kiss a lover Dance a measure, Find your name And buried treasure... Face your life Its pain, Its pleasure, Leave no path untaken  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) It’s certainly not too late to change to the winning side. But you know, you also have the freedom to stay just where you are. That’s what it means to be an American. That’s the miracle of America. Freedom to believe means the freedom to believe the wrong thing, after all. Just as freedom of speech gives you the right to stay silent  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I toyed briefly with an image someone once mentioned to me, of a village in the shadow of a twin-peaked mountain. In the morning the sun rises. At lunch it sets behind the mountain. In the early afternoon it rises once more. The cocks crow for the second time, and later the sun sets again. No. One peak. Metaphors should not be belaboured  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) What should I believe? thought Shadow, and the voice came back to him from somewhere deep beneath the world, in a bass rumble: Believe everything  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) The TV’s the altar. I’m what people are sacrificing to.’ ‘What do they sacrifice?’ asked Shadow. ‘Their time, mostly,’ said Lucy. ‘Sometimes each other  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) Note for Americans and other aliens: Milton Keynes is a new city approximately halfway between London and Birmingham. It was built to be modern, efficient, healthy, and, all in all, a pleasant place to live. Many Britons find this amusing  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) I’ll find you. Don’t worry. Just be on your own and I’ll find you  (Neil Gaiman Quotes) It’s still National Library Week. You should be especially nice to a librarian today, or tomorrow. Sometime this week, anyway.
