One day you will reach the handle and we can both go out to pee
"One day you will reach the handle and we can both go out to pee." These words were spoken by my father as he watched me struggle to reach the door handle, a daily reminder of my small stature and the challenges I faced as a child. But his words were not just about physical growth; they were a metaphor for the journey of life and the milestones we all must reach in order to move forward. As a child, I often felt frustrated by my size and the limitations it placed on me. I couldn't reach the top shelf in the kitchen, I couldn't ride the big kid rides at the amusement park, and I couldn't even open the door to go outside without help. But my father's words were a reminder that one day, I would grow taller and stronger, and I would be able to do all of these things on my own.
And so, I persevered. I ate my vegetables, I drank my milk, and I waited patiently for the day when I would finally be able to reach that elusive door handle. And sure enough, as the years passed, I grew taller and stronger, until one day, I finally reached the handle and opened the door to the outside world.
But my father's words were not just about physical growth; they were also about personal growth and the journey we all must take to become the best version of ourselves. As I grew older, I faced new challenges and obstacles that tested my strength and resilience. But each time I overcame a hurdle, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride, knowing that I was one step closer to reaching my full potential.
And so, as I reflect on my journey and the words my father spoke to me so many years ago, I realize that they were not just about reaching a door handle; they were about reaching for the stars and never giving up on my dreams. And as I continue to grow and evolve, I know that there will always be new doors to open and new challenges to overcome. But with determination and perseverance, I know that I will always be able to reach the handle and step out into the world, ready to face whatever comes my way.
