Text Quotes
When we read, we are doing more than delectating words on a page stories, characters, images, notions. We are communing with the mind of the author  (Page Quotes) Everyone of them words rang true and glowed like burning coal, pouring off every page like it was written in my soul from me to you  (Page Quotes) Before I write the first page of a novel, I spend a long time creating detailed backgrounds for my characters. I imagine the experiences that have formed them, what makes them happy, angry, fearful, and what they yearn for  (Page Quotes) Above all, a query letter is a sales pitch and it is the single most important page an unpublished writer will ever write. It’s the first impression and will either open the door or close it. It’s that important, so don’t mess it up. Mine took 17 drafts and two weeks to write  (Page Quotes) I believe that today more than ever a book should be sought after even if it has only one great page in it. We must search for fragments, splinters, toenails, anything that has ore in it, anything that is capable of resuscitating the body and the soul  (Page Quotes) You must know that in any moment a decision you make can change the course of your life forever, the very next person who you stand behind in line or sit next to on an aeroplane, the very next phone call you make or receive, the very next movie you see or book you read or page you turn could be the one single thing that causes the floodgates to open, and all of the things that you’ve been waiting for to fall into place  (Page Quotes) I’ve had experiences where I wasn’t allowed to change words around at all because you have to say everything, exactly as written on the page. That’s not fun for me. For me, part of being an actor is being able to contribute to a character’s rhythms. If there’s room to explore, you find a happy medium  (Page Quotes) The media love to cover black people on the front page. After all, when you live in a society that will lock up about 30 percent of all black men at some time in their lives and send more of them to prison than to college, chances are a fair number of those black faces will end up in the newspaper  (Page Quotes) For me, the game would be to assume a very intelligent reader who can extrapolate a lot from a little. And that’s become my definition of art; to get that pitch just right, where I can put a hint on page three, and the reader’s ears go up a bit, as opposed to dropping it all on the first page  (Page Quotes) No reflection was to be allowed now, not one glance was to be cast back; not even one forward. Not one thought was to be given either to the past or the future. The first was a page so heavenly sweet, so deadly sad, that to read one line of it would dissolve my courage and break down my energy. The last was an awful blank, something like then world when the deluge was gone by  (Page Quotes) A certain person wondered why a big strong girl like me wouldn’t keep a job which paid a normal salary. I took my time to lead her and to read her every page. Even minimal people can’t survive on minimal wage. A certain person wondered why I wait all week for you. I didn’t have the words to describe just what you do. I said you had the motion of the ocean in your walk, and when you solve my riddles you don’t even have to talk  (Page Quotes) At times I believed that the last page of my book and the last page of my life were one and the same, that when my book ended I’d end, a great wind would sweep through my rooms carrying the pages away, and when the air cleared of all those fluttering white sheets the room would be silent, the chair where I sat empty  (Page Quotes) If anyone had been paying attention to the signs, they would have realized that air turns white when things are about to change, that paper cuts mean there’s more to what’s written on the page than meets the eye, and that birds are always out to protect you from things you don’t see  (Page Quotes) Is there anything in the world better than words on the page? Magic signs, the voices of the dead, building blocks to make wonderful worlds better than this one, comforters, companions in loneliness. Keepers of secrets, speakers of the truth... all those glorious words  (Page Quotes) As though she had entered a fable, as though she were no more than words crawling along a dry page, or as though she were becoming that page itself, that surface on which her story would be written and across which there blew a hot and merciless wind, turning her body to papyrus, her skin to parchment, her soul to paper  (Page Quotes) Every day is like a kid’s drawing, offered to you with a strange mix of ceremoniousness and offhand disregard, yours for the keeping. Some of the days are rich and complicated, others inscrutable, others little more than a stray gray mark on a ragged page. Some you manage to hang on to, though your reasons for doing so are often hard to fathom. But most of them you just ball up and throw away  (Page Quotes) Words in prose ought to express the intended meaning; if they attract attention to themselves, it is a fault; in the very best styles you read page after page without noticing the medium. Works of imagination should be written in very plain language; the more purely imaginative they are, the more necessary it is to be plain  (Page Quotes) In the end, I am quite normal. I don’t have odd habits. I don’t dramatize. Above all, I do not romanticize the act of writing. I don’t talk about the anguish I suffer in creating. I do not have a fear of the blank page, writer’s block, all those things that we hear about writers  (Page Quotes) Words like passion and ecstasy, we learn them but they stay flat on the page. Sometimes we try to turn them over, find out what’s on the other side, and everyone has a story to tell os a woman or a brothel or an opium night or a war. We fear it. We fear passion and laugh at too much love and those who love too much  (Page Quotes) I have closed that page of my life without rancor. I do not disown any of the work done  (Page Quotes) There are rhythmic ideas which sometimes only work up to a point. In writing there are moments when it just comes off the page, it’s not just a collection of notes  (Page Quotes) The answer scrawled on a blank page in a daily newspaper, was conceived whilst aboard a ferry  (Page Quotes) I love old books. They tell you stories about their use. You can see where the fingerprints touched the pages as they held the book open. You can see how long they lingered on each page by the finger stains  (Page Quotes) I like that sense of we’re all on the same page and trying to get the job done  (Page Quotes) They put it on the page because it sounded good or it looked good or they read it in a book somewhere that this is how you structure a script or something, and they just don’t get it. It’s surprising  (Page Quotes) You have to remember when we were going once a month, we were putting out issues that were 480 pages, and people were complaining that these were too big, I can’t get through a 480 page magazine every month  (Page Quotes) Right now, I’ve never been more impressed by the new bands that we meet. I may be 10, 20 years older, but we’re all on the same page about culture, music and life  (Page Quotes) I’m pretty disciplined to keep the momentum of a story going by writing everyday, even if it’s only a couple paragraphs or a page or two  (Page Quotes) Whatever struggle happened between brothers, let us forget about it and turn the page forever and live united  (Page Quotes) We cannot tear out a single page of our life; but we can throw the book in the fire  (Page Quotes)
