Text Quotes
There are moments as a teacher when I’m conscious that I’m trotting out the same exact phrase my professor used with me years ago. It’s an eerie feeling, as if my old mentor is not just in the room, but in my shoes, using me as his mouthpiece  (Phrase Quotes) I have to phrase this perfectly: I’m just not convinced that the attention we give to creating what we think of as a character isn’t actually quite often the means by which an actor overcomes his own terror of standing there onstage and creating a mask to hide behind  (Phrase Quotes) Fear, as opposed to anxiety, has a definite object, which can be faced, analyzed, attacked, endured... anxiety has no object, or rather, in a paradoxical phrase, its object is the negation of every object  (Phrase Quotes) Philosophers and aestheticians may offer elegant and profound definitions of art and beauty, but for the painter they are all summed up in the phrase: To create a harmony  (Phrase Quotes) The phrase ‘popular science’ has in itself a touch of absurdity. That knowledge which is popular is not scientific  (Phrase Quotes) More truly characteristic of dissent is a dignity, an elevation, of mood and thought and phrase. Deep conviction and warm feeling are saying their last say with knowledge that the cause is lost. The voice of the majority may be that of force triumphant, content with the plaudits of the hour, and recking little of the morrow. The dissenter speaks to the future, and his voice is pitched to a key that will carry through the years  (Phrase Quotes) Common sense is a phrase employed to denote that degree of intelligence, sagacity, and prudence which is common to all men  (Phrase Quotes) Neatness of phrase is so closely akin to wit that it is often accepted as its substitute  (Phrase Quotes) Tell a thousand people to draft a letter, let them debate every phrase, and see how long it takes and what you get  (Phrase Quotes) I do not like the phrase: Never cross a bridge till you come to it. The world is owned by men who cross bridges on their imaginations miles and miles in advance of the procession  (Phrase Quotes) I’ve seen some movies where people improvise and will say some bizarre phrase they had heard the other day, and unless it’s coming directly from character and the moment they’re experiencing and driving the movie forward, then it’s always welcome  (Phrase Quotes) You desire to know the art of living, my friend? It is contained in one phrase: make use of suffering  (Phrase Quotes) Language rarely lies. It can reveal the insincerity of a writer’s claims simply through a grating adjective or an inflated phrase. We come upon a frenzy of words and suspect it hides a paucity of feeling  (Phrase Quotes) Try to reach for a simple, visual phrase that tells you what the picture is all about and evokes the essence of the story  (Phrase Quotes) Music is a lens through which to see who we are. Every phrase of every piece of music is trying to tell a story  (Phrase Quotes) Spare time is like spare change. It’s hard to quantify, the definition of that phrase. What do I do when I’m not onstage singing, or sleeping, with or without someone else? I watch movies  (Phrase Quotes) Every once in a while, you let a word or phrase out and you want to catch it and bring it back. You can’t do that. It’s gone, gone forever  (Phrase Quotes) The final lesson a writer learns is that everything can nourish the writer. The dictionary, a new word, a voyage, an encounter, a talk on the street, a book, a phrase learned  (Phrase Quotes) We are preoccupied with time. If we could learn to love space as deeply as we are now obsessed with time, we might discover a new meaning in the phrase to live like men  (Phrase Quotes) First love, with its frantic haughty imagination, swings its object clear of the everyday, over the rut of living, making him all looks, silences, gestures, attitudes, a burning phrase with no context  (Phrase Quotes) Humour and high seriousness... Perfect bedfellows, I think. Though I usually phrase it in terms of comedy and darkness. Comedy without darkness rapidly becomes trivial. And darkness without comedy rapidly becomes unbearable  (Phrase Quotes) The best timed joke or the best timed phrase comes at spontaneous moments and just relies on me as the host to be very quick, and that’s what I do  (Phrase Quotes) And there, in that phrase, the bitterness leaks again out of my pen. What a dull lifeless quality this bitterness is. If I could I would write with love, but if I could write with love I would be another man; I would never have lost love  (Phrase Quotes) Then I knew that the sign I had asked for was not a little thing, not a passing nod of recognition, and a phrase came back to me from my childhood of the veil of the temple being rent from top to bottom  (Phrase Quotes) I still care for you, you know.. That phrase again. Everyone cares for me. They just don’t know how to love me  (Phrase Quotes) Art for art’s sake is an empty phrase. Art for the sake of truth, art for the sake of the good and the beautiful, that is the faith I am searching for  (Phrase Quotes) .. her smile, which was her pretty feature, was never so pretty as when her sprightly phrase had a scratch lurking in it  (Phrase Quotes) The shapes arranged themselves into words, and the words spelled out a delicious and wonderful phrase: Once upon a time  (Phrase Quotes) Betty died of a broken heart. Some people laugh when they hear that phrase, but that’s because they don’t know anything about the world. People die of broken hearts. It happens every day, and it will go on happening to the end of time  (Phrase Quotes) It’s strange how a word, a phrase, a sentence, can feel like a blow to the head  (Phrase Quotes)
