How fortunate we are to exist in the moneyless economy of poetry! When you take money out of the equation, anything goes and nobody cares. It’s truly free  (Poetry Quotes) I think the pleasure of form is that you have a companion with you besides all the poetry you have ever read  (Poetry Quotes) Poetry is an attenuation, a rehandling, an echo of crude experience; it is itself a theoretic vision of things at arm’s length  (Poetry Quotes) Most true musicians don’t do it for the money, they do it because they love it. When I did slam poetry, it was a great way for me to express myself, I loved it  (Poetry Quotes) If there is anything unique about my writing it is the way that I combine poetry and prose, not just on the level of having a poem here, prose there, but that it really is a true amalgam  (Poetry Quotes) I’m truly an outsider in the poetry world. When I started writing, I was trying to move my poems away from modernist lines  (Poetry Quotes) Poetry is my politics. It’s an opportunity that gives me a way to speak  (Poetry Quotes) If you want meaning, you read poetry or a novel or something, you don’t read song lyrics. I don’t quite see or live the distinction you are making about the forms  (Poetry Quotes) Poetry is probably the last gift economy. Part of the negotiation is to understand that you’re going to do something you really want to do, so you’re going to take whatever life comes with that  (Poetry Quotes) Poetry has no investment in anything besides openness. It’s not arguing a point. It’s creating an environment  (Poetry Quotes) I see the progress typical in some of my poems as starting with something simple and moving into something more demanding. This is certainly the pattern of weird poetry  (Poetry Quotes) Soho has got to be at its centre. It’s got such a history for rock, pop, poetry, jazz, writers, all those things, and I think it should be valued as such, and protected as this centre for bohemia  (Poetry Quotes) I spend most of my time reading non-fiction of all sorts. Then poetry. Then fiction to blurb. Then fiction I want to read  (Poetry Quotes) I’m not from the arts, I’m a law professor. But I think we need more poetry in politics  (Poetry Quotes) I like to move around in the landscape between poetry and prose, between the lyrical and the narrative  (Poetry Quotes) I’m sort of annoyed that some very basic things about poetic forms were not conveyed to me in the various poetry courses I took over the years  (Poetry Quotes) Very little of my time is spent thinking about poetry, except the time I spend in class  (Poetry Quotes) I don’t know if anyone has ever mentioned this, we need to be careful with drugs! They’re not just all fun and games! And of course poetry would be immeasurably worse without humor  (Poetry Quotes) I didn’t really like confessional poetry or things. They seemed sort of dated to me, or just corny  (Poetry Quotes) As a writer who writes poetry, nonfiction, and fiction, I think it’s important to always maintain a firm grasp on genre and ethics  (Poetry Quotes) I think poetry can lead to policy, and I can hear the laughter when I say that  (Poetry Quotes) Peculiar as I was, and remain, I was trained to be practical. I’m still amazed at the radical temerity of my friends, you included, Julie, who choose poetry as their vocation. I envy your faith  (Poetry Quotes) When I took my first poetry class, I felt that I could understand the relationships between words and the formal qualities of language in a way I would never understand music  (Poetry Quotes) I’m basically a poetry scholar, and I’m happier here in my studio with my row of Chinese dictionaries than I am, frankly, at Lincoln Center  (Poetry Quotes) It would be nice if all the Republicans could put poetry in a little box and put the box under the bed and sit on it, but they can’t  (Poetry Quotes) Poetry, for me, conveys the essence of narrative rather than its particulars  (Poetry Quotes)
