Text Quotes
I often wonder what my life would be like without the use of a library. Throughout my education and career, public and private libraries have been not only the key to much of the knowledge I have acquired, but also have given me a direction within my profession. The best thing about the library is that it is available not only to me, but to everyone. It does not discriminate  (Public Quotes) The greatest threat to public confidence in elections in this case is the prospect of enforcing a purposefully discriminatory law, one that likely imposes an unconstitutional poll tax and risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of thousands of eligible voters  (Public Quotes) Male and female citizens, being equal in the eyes of the law, must be equally admitted to all honors, positions, and public employment according to their capacity and without other distinctions besides those of their virtues and talents  (Public Quotes) It was through the private world of family that the public world of politics came alive for me: living in intimate proximity with people for whom larger questions of ideology and belief, as well as issues relating to politics and governance, were vivid daily realities  (Public Quotes) It seems to me that the thing that makes the theater worthwhile is the fact that it attracts so many people with ideas who are constantly trying to share them with the public. Real art is illumination. It gives a man an idea he never had before or lights up ideas that were formless or only lurking in the shadows of his mind. It adds stature to life  (Public Quotes) Women have one great advantage over men. It is commonly thought that if they marry they have done enough, and need career no further. If a man marries, on the other hand, public opinion is all against him if he takes this view  (Public Quotes) We must do all in our power to educate the public, for I believe that in the end only a change of heart is really effective  (Public Quotes) In any election, it’s important that the public perceives that the election is held fairly  (Public Quotes) There is a decided prejudice on the part of the general public against being piloted by a woman, and as great an aversion, partially because of this, by executives of those companies whose activities require employing pilots  (Public Quotes) As a leader, you have to not only do the right thing, but be perceived to be doing the right thing. A consequence of seeking a leadership position is being put under intense public scrutiny, being held to high standards, and enhancing a reputation that is constantly under threat  (Public Quotes) We have a natural constant craving for leadership. Democracy is always a fragile and imperfect achievement. Yet a distinct feeling of malaise in our political culture lingers. There is something missing from our public debates  (Public Quotes) There are many in public life who deserve only our praise and admiration. But there are too many who are products of a class that knows little other than spin and the machinations of politics. Little wonder that leadership of the transforming sort is so hard to come by. The danger is that this may be permanent. Where our best people shun politics because the profession isn’t honoured as it once was, this only serves to make the profession even less honoured  (Public Quotes) In modern political society it is probably a fact that national leadership can heighten foreign crises to the point where war becomes almost inevitable and public approval, at least for a time, automatic  (Public Quotes) If you’re not prepared to do something in public, don’t do it at all  (Public Quotes) It will be interesting to see if they accept the idea that not only actual corruption in politics needs to be addressed, but the appearance of corruption as well, ensuring public confidence and all that  (Public Quotes) It is easy to fail when designing an interactive experience. Designers fail when they do not know the audience, integrate the threads of content and context, welcome the public properly, or make clear what the experience is and what the audience’s role in it will be  (Public Quotes) The man who can look upon a crisis without being willing to offer himself upon the altar of his country is not for public trust  (Public Quotes) Our nation must engage with the rest of the world. But to be successful, we must listen. Our interaction with the world must be a conversation, not a monologue... these exchanges are a strategic pillar of our nation’s public diplomacy  (Public Quotes) Whether philosophically you believe in a public subsidization of an arena or a stadium, that’s the reality. We can’t have professional basketball in this community by the end of our lease in 2010 without subsidization  (Public Quotes) Today’s new climate policy is like delivering the final divorce papers to the public and the world,... And it is divorced from the reality of global warming  (Public Quotes) Every citizen owes to the country a vigilant watch and close scrutiny of its public servants and a fair and reasonable estimate of their fidelity  (Public Quotes) The idea that you make an experience that requires a conversation in a public place is training for the fact that culture is collective  (Public Quotes) Architecture is an imposed art in some ways, imposed upon the public, so people must be sure about what you’re doing. You have to be sure about what you’re doing  (Public Quotes) The public still ultimately determines what happens to you politically, by virtue of the casting of their vote... and you cannot ever predict what will move the public in one direction or another  (Public Quotes) Today, a politician does not just need public support to win elections; he needs it to govern  (Public Quotes) By establishing reading societies, and subscription libraries, and taking these under our direction, and supplying them through our labors, we may turn the public mind which way we will  (Public Quotes) I went to public school my whole life, graduated high school with my class. Growing up, I’d go to an audition, my friends would go to soccer practice and we’d all reconvene and hang out in our neighborhood. When I would book something, I would never tell my friends. Acting was just fun. I was a kid, I wasn’t jaded  (Public Quotes) A government cannot be expected to allow independence to its central bank unless that bank is also accountable to it and to the wider public. That is, the central bank must be able to be judged on whether or not it has achieved its agreed objective  (Public Quotes) A single factory, potentially capable of supplying a whole continent with its particular product, cannot afford to wait until the public asks for its product; it must maintain constant touch, through advertising and propaganda, with the vast public in order to assure itself the continuous demand which alone will make its costly plant profitable  (Public Quotes) Just as women supplement men in private life, so they will supplement men in public life by concentrating their organized efforts on those objects which men are likely to ignore. There is a tremendous field for women as active protagonists of new ideas and new methods of political and social housekeeping. When organized and conscious of their power to influence their surroundings, women can use their newly acquired freedom in a great many ways to mold the world into a better place to live in  (Public Quotes)
