Text Quotes
The publishing industry, unsurprisingly, is full of different people who love different things and express that love in different languages. A lot of it has to do with older licensing schemes  (Publishing Quotes) It’s my belief that you should never show your work to anyone in the publishing world until it shines like a diamond. Rough drafts don’t shine, as a rule. Mine certainly didn’t. That’s why I was rejected for years and years  (Publishing Quotes) I know publishing now more as an author than with occasional peaks inside those elite offices than as an industry insider. It was difficult publishing a novel the first time around, while working behind the scenes, knowing all that has to happen to make a book a success and to still make the leap as an author  (Publishing Quotes) I think publishing’s strength is also its weakness. It’s got such a rich and celebrated history as an industry. For the most part, publishing people are incredibly creative, business is done based on the strength of relationships, and the product being peddled is books  (Publishing Quotes) I am always making sketches of how information should look or mapping out a marketing campaign. When I present my notes, people start responding to them. Desktop publishing makes everything look slick. When you present sketches, it helps start the dialogue and collaboration  (Publishing Quotes) We sell books, other people sell shoes. What’s the difference? Publishing isn’t the highest art  (Publishing Quotes) God forbid that I should ever suffer the shame of publishing a book for money, or of having one of my family so demean themselves. How can one tell who might read it? No worthy book has ever been written for gain, I think;  (Publishing Quotes) The model of publishing is changing and its happening right now, but most publishers are so frightened, they just don’t know how to embrace it  (Publishing Quotes) I’m seeing more and more books by celebrity authors, and I’m not happy to see them. I’d rather see publishing budgets devoted to genuine talents  (Publishing Quotes) That is simply the most beautiful publishing office in the world, with that cranky old building in that wonderful park  (Publishing Quotes) After I started publishing poetry I got to teach creative writing. Eventually I was promoted and even got tenure. But then I felt compelled to drop everything and move. But I’ve been teaching for a long time. More than four decades  (Publishing Quotes) I feel very discouraged with the state of gay and lesbian publishing because I don’t feel like we’re really welcome in the mainstream and then you get ghettoized and put on some lesbian book club reading list where you don’t want to be either  (Publishing Quotes) What with the reviews of critics, the sarcasms of one’s friends, the reproaches of one’s own taste, there’s precious little peace after publishing a book  (Publishing Quotes) The successful publishing house is the one that can guess ahead, not the one that imitates the past  (Publishing Quotes) I did a lot of freelance desk publishing jobs when I graduated from college. I sort of earned a living doing that while I was writing plays, which was what I wanted to do. My hope was to become a playwright  (Publishing Quotes) When I went into the publishing industry, many women talked about the difficulty they had in persuading their families to let them go to college. They educated the boys, and the girls had to struggle  (Publishing Quotes) Freedom to publish means freedom for all and not for some. Freedom to publish is guaranteed by the constitution but freedom to continue to prevent others from publishing is not  (Publishing Quotes) There are three difficulties in authorship: to write anything worth publishing, to find honest men to publish it, and to find sensible men to read it  (Publishing Quotes) I think that the economics of book publishing favor hits with long book runs. You make all your money on the last bunch of books, not the first  (Publishing Quotes) The future of publishing is about having connections to readers and the knowledge of what those readers want  (Publishing Quotes) There’s a lust in man, no charm can tame, of loudly publishing our neighbor’s shame  (Publishing Quotes) I’ve thought of publishing a book of my hate mail, but I don’t own the rights to the letters  (Publishing Quotes) I publish my own books, so there isn’t a certain editor I owe the book to at a publishing house  (Publishing Quotes) I have a publishing company of books by me and books of others. It drew people to poetry readings and photo exhibitions and painting exhibitions that I’ve been doing for years before that  (Publishing Quotes) The publishing of a book is a worldwide event. The attempt to suppress a book is a worldwide event  (Publishing Quotes) Someone ought to publish a book about the doomsayers who keep publishing books about the end of publishing  (Publishing Quotes) It is clear that a novel cannot be too bad to be worth publishing... It certainly is possible for a novel to be too good to be worth publishing  (Publishing Quotes) Publishing a book is like stuffing a note into a bottle and hurling it into the sea. Some bottles drown, some come safe to land, where the notes are read and then possibly cherished, or else misinterpreted, or else understood all too well by those who hate the message. You never know who your readers might be  (Publishing Quotes) At first my publisher had reservations about publishing it in the form you are familiar with  (Publishing Quotes)
