Text Quotes
I take comfort that aging happens to everybody. It’s part of life. Aging offers great lessons in dignity, since the indignity wins in the end. Yes, it bothers me when I have lines or puffiness or droops. But it connects me with the human race. Like weather bringing people together, aging brings people together  (Race Quotes) When the race is ended, and the play is either won or lost, and ye are in the utmost circle and border of time, and shall put your foot within the march of eternity, all the good things of your short nightdream shall seem to you like ashes of a blaze of thorns or straw  (Race Quotes) Everybody tells me that I never look as if I’m suffering. But, when I watch videotapes of a race, I always remember the pain I had to endure  (Race Quotes) I’m fascinated by the sprinters. They suffer so much during the race just to get to the finish, they hang on for dear life in the climbs, but then in the final kilometers they are transformed and do amazing things. It’s not their force per se that impresses me, but rather the renaissance they experience. Seeing them suffer throughout the race only to be reborn in the final is something for fascination  (Race Quotes) What I look for is neither reality nor unreality but the subconscious, the instinctive mystery of the human race  (Race Quotes) I expect to see trade wars, foreign policy disasters, a few race riots, a decrease in personal liberty, higher taxes, higher inflation and probably, economic collapse. The silver lining is, secession will probably become more feasible  (Race Quotes) Millions of our race are now supported by lands situated where deep seas once prevailed in earlier ages. In many districts not yet occupied by man, land animals and forests now abound where the anchor once sank into the oozy bottom  (Race Quotes) In world history, those who have helped to build the same culture are not necessarily of one race, and those of the same race have not all participated in one culture  (Race Quotes) Technology is driving us together. In many ways we are becoming like one family. With the global threats resulting from science and technology, the whole of humankind now needs protection. We have to extend our loyalty to the whole of the human race  (Race Quotes) Whatever system of governance is eventually adopted, it is important that it carries the people with it. We need to convey the message that safeguarding our common property, humankind, will require developing in each of us a new loyalty: a loyalty to mankind. It calls for the nurturing of a feeling of belonging to the human race. We have to become world citizens  (Race Quotes) The brain is the organ of destiny. It holds within its humming mechanism secrets that will determine the future of the human race  (Race Quotes) On the path of truth, all religions are but one, race and color are irrelevant, and there is no difference between men and women  (Race Quotes) When I was 15, I had lucky underwear. When that failed, I had a lucky hairdo, then a lucky race number, even lucky race days. After 15 years, I’ve found the secret to success is hard work  (Race Quotes) Success isn’t winning every time. A lot of different factors go into every race, and you can’t control all of them. Success means doing as excellent a job as you can on that particular day. The people I admire most aren’t necessarily the most wonderful athletes. I admire the ones who keep coming back and doing it, time after time  (Race Quotes) We have the misconception that competitiveness means winning at all costs, but that’s not what competition is. Competition is just doing your best and not giving up. We all face a moment in a race or in a competition in which we want to give up. We can either give in and not keep pushing, or we can charge forward and work through it  (Race Quotes) I am going to go out a winner if I have to find a high school race to win my last race  (Race Quotes) For me, each nuance of a color is in some way an individual, a being who is from the same race as the base color, but who definitely possesses a distinct character and personal soul  (Race Quotes) Geneticists believe that anthropologists have decided what a race is. Ethnologists assume that their classifications embody principles which genetic science has proved correct. Politicians believe that their prejudices have the sanction of genetic laws and the findings of physical anthropology to sustain them  (Race Quotes) All good men wish the entire abolition of slavery, as soon as it can take place with safety to the public, and for the lasting good of the present wretched race of slaves. The only possible step that could be taken towards it by the convention was to fix a period after which they should not be imported  (Race Quotes) No negative thoughts cross my mind on race day. When I look into their eyes, I know I’m going to beat them  (Race Quotes) I’d rather run a gutsy race, pushing all the way and lose, than run a conservative race only for a win  (Race Quotes) It was a very strange, disappointing race in that no one wanted to take it out. That’s why I took the lead. I wanted some people to run the real distance and that was frustrating. So I took the pace around the second lap, which in some ways is suicidal... but I wanted the pace to be honest  (Race Quotes) I wanted to run my race. I didn’t want to sit there and play games and see who could kick the hardest. I wanted it to be a race  (Race Quotes) When I was about 14 or 15, and running in a pretty muddy cross country race, one of my shoes stuck in the mud and came off. Boy, was I wild. To think that I had trained hard for this race and didn’t do up my shoelace tightly enough! I really got aggressive with myself, and I found myself starting to pass a lot of runners. As it turned out, I improved something like twenty places in that one race. But I never did get my shoe back  (Race Quotes) As a sportsman, I accept being beaten. Everybody tries to be a winner, but only one in a race will win. It’s fun to win. But I don’t find unhappiness if I lose  (Race Quotes) Do the work. Do the analysis. But feel your run. Feel your race. Feel the joy that is running  (Race Quotes) I was unable to walk for a whole week after that, so much did the race take out of me. But it was the most pleasant exhaustion I have ever known  (Race Quotes) I have never been a killer. I’m not an aggressive personality and if I can remember any emotion I felt during a race it was fear. The greatest stimulator of my running was fear  (Race Quotes) When runners win a big race these days, they get a car. When I won a big race, I got a ride  (Race Quotes) When you have lived longer in this world and outlived the enthusiastic and pleasing illusions of youth, you will find your love and pity for the race increase tenfold, your admiration and attachment to a particular party or opinion fall away altogether  (Race Quotes)
