Text Quotes
In high school, I had a wonderful teacher who, coincidentally also taught Meryl Streep before me. At the same time I had my own rock band, I played bass and sang. I was one of those kids who really enjoyed being with my friends and doing rather insane, but fun, creative things.  (Sang Quotes) I sang the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium - at a baseball game - which was crazy; there was, like, 60,000 people there, which is a huge deal in America - singing the National Anthem.  (Sang Quotes) My father has a beautiful, beautiful voice. His father was a pastor of a church. He sang in church. My mother sang in a church choir. I can take no credit for my vocal talent, because, both my father, and mother have beautiful, beautiful voices.  (Sang Quotes) We sang a lot of church music. We were very active Baptists. Supposedly, I started singing when I was being given a bath - at 14 months or something like that. My mother and dad both swore that was true, but I’m sure it wasn’t very good... We always had the Metropolitan Opera on the radio on Saturday afternoons.  (Sang Quotes) I always did plays. When I was in kindergarten, I got chosen to be Alvin in ‘The Chipmunks.’ We did a Chipmunks song. I was always a natural performer. It was easy for me. I danced and I sang, and all that stuff. I felt like I’d be something in the arts, but it vacillated between being a dancer and a singer, or whatever.  (Sang Quotes) My parents had a love for music. There were so many records, so much music constantly being played. My mother played piano, my father sang, and we were always surrounded in music.  (Sang Quotes) Professionally, when I did the Olympic games and sang for my country in Australia. It was a big moment, Sydney in 2000. It was just a brilliant moment in my life.  (Sang Quotes) The biggest surprise to people is that I sang background on Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ album.  (Sang Quotes) [Billie Holiday] was keeping it super real, and you can feel that to this day. Everything that she sang, she believed in. So I had to pick songs that I felt the same about.  (Sang Quotes) No one had ever told me that whites were supposed to sing one kind of music and blacks another - I sang what I liked in the only voice I had.  (Sang Quotes) I always loved Sam Cooke, because he seemed very versatile. He sang gospel, soul, blues, pop music  (Sang Quotes) I can still remember the afternoon, on my 15th birthday, when I opened up ‘The Virgin and the Gypsy,’ D.H. Lawrence’s novella, in my tiny cell in boarding school, and whole worlds of possibility opened out that I had never guessed existed. The language was on fire and sang of liberation.  (Sang Quotes) Within the bottle’s depths, the wine’s soul sang one night. Drink wine, drink poetry, drink virtue.  (Sang Quotes) When I was a teeny little girl, I was in dancing school, and I sang. We had to put a dance to a song, so I went to the 10-cent store one day and looked at all the sheet music. It was all laid out, and I picked ‘Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries.’  (Sang Quotes) Unlike many Sixties rockers,[Bob] Dylan sang about getting old, about broken dreams. His return to roots music pointed the way for many of his contemporaries to forsake trying to sound ‘current’ and to instead make music that would stand the test of time.  (Sang Quotes) All of my brothers and sisters are very talented. They all sang all right.  (Sang Quotes) If only all the contradictory voices shouting in my head would calm down and sing a song in unison, whatever it was I wouldn’t care as long as they sang without dissonance.  (Sang Quotes) In high school, I had two friends that were suffering from cancer. I would go and sing for them while they were in hospital, and I sang at their services after they passed.  (Sang Quotes) When you are very old, and sit in the candle - light at evening spinning by the fire, you will say, as you murmur my verses, a wonder in your eyes, ‘Ronsard sang of me in the days when I was fair.  (Sang Quotes) I had something nobody else could do - I sang in a way that separated me - and, when you’re trying to get noticed, you play your trump card.  (Sang Quotes) I did get to sing at Carnegie Hall when they were made Landmarks!
