Text Quotes
I’d just love to have an audience and it’s the most fun in the world to get a new script every week and have the audience come in, and work with those actors.  (Script Quotes) There is always something funny going on between scenes with Adam Sandler. He’s always cracking jokes and yelling at people for no reason. It’s pretty funny. He’ll joke around during scenes, too. When he guest-starred on ‘Jessie,’ there was nothing in the script that he said first take.  (Script Quotes) There are directors that I want to work with and that I admire. You can love a script, but if it doesn’t have a good director, it won’t be that.  (Script Quotes) I never practice before, I never work hours on a script. I just choose my characters and trust them, and after that, it’s about the director taking your hand.  (Script Quotes) The challenging thing is that we go home after doing the run-through and the writers stay there working, so sometimes I get script changes delivered to me at midnight. It’s constantly shifting.  (Script Quotes) I love OneRepublic, The Script, All Time Low. I love pretty much every genre. I love the Rolling Stones and Elvis.  (Script Quotes) If you just read Joseph Campbell, who has written amazing books on mythology and religion, they all do come together at some point. There are some of the greatest stories that there have ever been in the Bible. All you have to do is read the book of Maccabi, it’s like a film script.  (Script Quotes) One Tree Hill’ was my first television experience, so naturally I was nervous initially. There is no rehearsal, you get your script a few days ahead, and you work. I was also the youngest actor, 13, on set at that time, but it was amazing to be able to ‘learn the ropes’ with such a supportive group of people.  (Script Quotes) We start ‘The Butler’ in June and that’s incredibly exciting for me because I get to work with the amazing Forest Whitaker again. It’s a phenomenal script and a great, great role - I play his son. Oprah Winfrey is his wife and my mother. My character is a radical civil rights activist.  (Script Quotes) When I read the script it was extraordinary and to work with Yorgos [Lanthimos] again was amazing  (Script Quotes) Good actors never use the script unless it’s amazing writing. All the good actors I’ve worked with, they all say whatever they want to say.  (Script Quotes) I wrote and finished the script for ‘Man in the Middle’ two weeks after the September 11 bombing. It’s a very American film about an ex-diplomat based in the Middle East, a leader in the U.S. administration who now sells used cars in the Middle East.  (Script Quotes) Before I moved into the mainstream of American movies, I wrote a script as an experiment. I wanted to get very far away from the clichés about the three-act play - structure, development.  (Script Quotes) I had the advantage of reading the book, and when the script was first submitted to me, it was just another gangster story - the east side taking over the west side and all that.  (Script Quotes) There was one film that I really wanted. This was a long time ago; it was a film called ‘Fracture.’ Ryan Gosling ended up doing it with Anthony Hopkins. It wasn’t a giant box-office success, but I really enjoyed the script, and I enjoyed the character. I got pretty close and was kind of disappointed it didn’t go my way.  (Script Quotes) I’m thinking about directing, but I know it’s a lot of work and I appreciate what directors do and I would like to be good at it. The opportunity has presented itself four to five times, and I usually said no because of the script.  (Script Quotes) You can win more arguments then you might think as a writer, even though you legally have no recourse, and your script can get muddied and altered in any way possible. You can use reason, logic, and passion to argue persuasively for a case in your favor.  (Script Quotes) Ideally, really ideally, you want to get to a place where you can have creative control over the material you do - choices, at least, anyway. And you want your choice of script and role. But do you really want your life to revolve around trying to maintain your privacy?  (Script Quotes) When a script like ‘Hardflip’ comes along, with a real depiction of the rewards of a father-son relationship but also the difficulties of building one, you have my attention.  (Script Quotes) When I get a script, it’s the only time that I get to be an audience member with the first-time experience of that movie. That’s the first and only time.  (Script Quotes) For a long time, there was this rumor that I turned down doing ‘Austin Powers,’ which is not true. While they did send me the script, I don’t think I was ever a serious consideration to direct it. I’m sure they probably sent it to 20 others as well.  (Script Quotes) It all starts with the script: it’s not worth taking myself away from my family if I don’t have something I’m really passionate about.  (Script Quotes) I’m sticking to the script, I’m putting that organic feeling back in the game  (Script Quotes) I know that I wouldn’t mind going back to work if I could find the right script and the right crew to work with.  (Script Quotes) I never put down a bad script and I never walk out of a bad movie because I’m always hopeful things will change.  (Script Quotes) You look at the part in 12 Years A Slave,’ you finish that script - I mean, it’s a powerful story. You go, ‘Man, I have to play a bad character in this.’ And then you go, ‘Well, do I want to play a bad character and contribute to a good story?’  (Script Quotes) If you get a bad script, then you start expending energy trying to make a silk purse of a sow’s ear. When the script’s as good as those on ‘Game of Thrones,’ say, I don’t think there was a single occasion where any of us thought there was a bad scene.  (Script Quotes) If I get two lines in the script, I somehow turn it into 20. I’ve got a bit of a bad habit of doing that, of just embellishing my little moment.  (Script Quotes) I don’t like most Christmas movies. They’re pretty bad, though they seem to make tons of money anyway. Like this movie ‘Elf,’ I got the script for that, and I turned it down right away. Against my wife’s better judgment.  (Script Quotes) All of the good movies are based on how that story was told. And you cannot do it with a bad script, that’s for sure, no matter who.  (Script Quotes)
