Text Quotes
What appealed to me about ‘The Loved Ones’ script was that it had this really theatrical element to it. I thought that the scope of this character is so broad, and there is so much fun to be had playing a crazy teenage loner. It was a great way to explore the delusions a mind can create.  (Script Quotes) I love the script and I just thought it was a great role. Like I say, it’s like this - the script is like this sad, funny, desperate love song to the lost American man.  (Script Quotes) The difference between life and the movies is that a script has to make sense, and life doesn’t.  (Script Quotes) What happens is things come to you - director, script - and if you respond to it, it’s because it’s tapping into some part of what’s inside you, and different roles tap into different parts.  (Script Quotes) I think having six people all with different energies and different perceptions all working around a script is quite profound. It’s not about, oh that’s what you should be doing.  (Script Quotes) A movie’s very different from the book, and it’s different from the script, and it’s usually one person’s vision.  (Script Quotes) To make the script, you need ideas, and for me a lot of times, a final script is made up of many fragments of ideas that came at different times.  (Script Quotes) A lot of times, when I’m approaching pre-production and my job, and trying to research and work on the script and whatnot it’s always different.  (Script Quotes) For ‘A.D.,’ when I got the script, I was really moved, because even though it told a story that I knew all my life, it was told in a different way. It was told from a very personal point of view.  (Script Quotes) It’s not like I walk around being Superman in real life. But when you read the script and put yourself in the position that Superman is in - I mean, he’s always saving the planet, for God’s sake. When you realize that, it’s not difficult to take the gravitas of the situation and make your voice do what it needs to do.  (Script Quotes) It’s never been difficult for me to say no. I have never given excuses like I don’t have dates. I have never over-quoted to avoid a project. I simply say that while the script might be good, I can’t connect with it. My strategy is that while I wouldn’t want anyone to waste my time, I shouldn’t be doing that, either, with others.  (Script Quotes) I enjoy co-directing or even being there just for support because you get to see your script come to aural life in front of you.  (Script Quotes) I don’t like to write any music to a script. Experience has taught me that’s generally a waste of time.  (Script Quotes) I love being on stage if I’m not on a set. If I’m at home, I’m usually in my office editing or reconstructing my website or whatever it may be. I just love putting creativity into a performance, so if the right script comes along, and I certainly am reading comedies and dramas now, then I’m ready willing and able to give it a shot.  (Script Quotes) King of California’ was just, I thought, a really great, fresh, original kind of script. I loved the tone, the mix of tragedy, comedy, and drama, and that it was a good part.  (Script Quotes) I usually choose movies that I would want to see. I appreciate drama and if the right script came across my desk, drama you will see.  (Script Quotes) My character Milly in ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’ was a very strong part. There were dramatic moments, and there were humorous moments, too. The whole story with Eric Underwood’s character was just wonderful, and the messages behind the script were very important to me.  (Script Quotes) What is your Primary Aim? Where is the script to make your dreams come true?  (Script Quotes) I keep drawing inspiration from people every day. All of a sudden, something strikes me so hard and dramatically, and then a dream comes - I sit down, cut it off and make a script out of it.  (Script Quotes) When you have a script, and you’re discussing what it can be, and who going to play what role, that’s a kind of like a fantasy football game. You can imagine these different dream teams interpreting these characters that only exist in your head.  (Script Quotes) I start casting early in the writing process, so I can tailor the script to the gifts of the actors.  (Script Quotes) Don’t say you want to be an actor and not know how to read a script. Don’t give up 15 minutes before the miracle comes. Everyone’s career ebbs and flows, especially if you’re African American. That’s the time to dig in and keep your instrument sharp.  (Script Quotes) The way we work at Pixar is we write the script, but then we quickly move on into story reel, which is basically like a comic-book version of the film. And then we do our own dialogue and music and sound effects, all in an effort to be able to basically sit in the theater and watch the movie before we shoot it, essentially.  (Script Quotes) As for tweeting and texting: impassioned discussions, particularly when they’re intimate, don’t work in abbreviated script messages. No relationship should begin or end in 140 characters.  (Script Quotes) I like roles of people who can overcome things because there’s strength in that and an arc - and roles where they start in one place, and toward the end of the script they end up in a completely different place, so you’ve seen this growth and some humanity in the role.  (Script Quotes) If a script comes together, and you end up liking the people who are part of it, that’s when you can make magic happen. It’s a huge combination of trying to find something you think you can deliver on and a director you think you can collaborate with to make a good picture.  (Script Quotes) A script is a unique literary form, because it’s not the end product; it’s a blueprint. If you’re not thinking of that end product, there’s going to be a disconnect.  (Script Quotes) I mark a script like an exam, and I try not to do anything under 50 per cent. Similarly with the part. And also film is a peculiar thing, parts don’t necessarily read in script form anything like as well as they can do when it comes to materialising.  (Script Quotes) Sometimes when it comes to the iconic kind of moments, when I read the script for the first time, you get little goose bumps or something because it really is kind of exciting.  (Script Quotes) A script like ‘Nightcrawler’ gives me an opportunity to truly realize a vision that’s mine, which is exciting.  (Script Quotes)
