I have written my life in small sketches, a little today, a little yesterday... I look back on my life as a good day’s work, it was done and I feel satisfied with it. I made the best out of what life offered  (Small Quotes) Every small problem most likely stems from the same root as large problems, and so there is no need to always go deep. That’s because I lived in a very small town and nobody liked doing the same things I did, like writing  (Small Quotes) The trouble begins when we start to be so impressed by the strategies of our systematized thought that we forget that it does relate to an obverse, that it is hewn from negation, that it is but very small security against the void of negation which surrounds it  (Small Quotes) The conscious life of the mind is of small importance in comparison with its unconscious life  (Small Quotes) Small groups or communities may be far more oppressive to the individual than larger ones. Men are in many ways freer in large cities than in small villages  (Small Quotes) It is simply impossible to control a large painting with the edge in the same way that you can control a small one  (Small Quotes) There is movement and movement. There are movements of small tension and movements of great tension and there is also a movement which our eyes cannot catch although it can be felt. In art this state is called dynamic movement  (Small Quotes) The reason for my painting large canvases is that I want to be intimate and human. To paint a small picture is to place yourself outside your experience, to look upon an experience as a stereopticon view or with a reducing glass. However you paint the larger picture, you are in it. It isn’t something you command  (Small Quotes) I wish to be of service to the artists of our own day, by showing them how a small beginning leads to the highest elevation, and how from so noble a situation it is possible to fall to utmost ruin, and consequently, how these arts resemble nature as shown in our human bodies  (Small Quotes) The hardest part has been maintaining a small head and remaining down to earth. So many people try to make you more than you are  (Small Quotes) With all this consumer debt, business debt, government debt, smaller movements in interest rates have a magnified effect. a small movement can tip the boat  (Small Quotes) There’s an amazing intimate feeling in a small club but an insane rush playing a stadium or festival  (Small Quotes) You want a better, more fraternal, more just world? Well then, start building it: Who is stopping you? Build it inside yourself and around you, build it with those who want it. Build it small, and it will grow  (Small Quotes) Why can a man not act himself, be himself, and think for himself? It seems to me that naturalness alone is power; that a borrowed word is weaker than our own weakness, however small we may be  (Small Quotes) Even the smallest landscape can offer pride of ownership not only to its inhabitants but to its neighbors. The world delights in a garden... Creating any garden, big or small, is, in the end, all about joy  (Small Quotes) No ordinary work done by a man is either as hard or as responsible as the work of a woman who is bringing up a family of small children; for upon her time and strength demands are made not only every hour of the day but often every hour of the night  (Small Quotes) Start small, think big. Don’t worry about too many things at once. Take a handful of simple things to begin with, and then progress to more complex ones. Think about not just tomorrow, but the future. Put a ding in the universe  (Small Quotes) Sift each of us through the great sieve of circumstance and you have a residue, great or small as the case may be, that is the man or the woman  (Small Quotes) Leadership means that a group, large or small, is willing to entrust authority to a person who has shown judgment, wisdom, personal appeal, and proven competence  (Small Quotes) It is said that history turns on small hinges. A human career, too, results from an accumulating series of decisions about large and small matters over a period of years. But the catch is that you can never know when a seemingly small decision may prove to be, from the vantage of later years, the big decision of your life  (Small Quotes) Beside the grand history of the glaciers and their own, the mountain streams sing the history of every avalanche or earthquake and of snow, all easily recognized by the human ear, and every word evoked by the falling leaf and drinking deer, beside a thousand other facts so small and spoken by the stream in so low a voice the human ear cannot hear them  (Small Quotes) We live in a scientific age, yet we assume that knowledge of science is the prerogative of only a small number of human beings, isolated and priestlike in their laboratories. This is not true. The materials of science are the materials of life itself. Science is part of the reality of living; it is the way, the how and the why for everything in our experience  (Small Quotes) Get a sales tax, small on necessities and large on luxuries; then a stiff inheritance tax on the fellow that saves and don’t spend. That will get him either way.
