Text Quotes
I’m recording freely, and if I make a song, I release it immediately, so I’m more likely to believe in one song at a time as opposed to albums  (Song Quotes) I learned when I started to study piano that I could play by ear. I could hear a song on the radio a couple of times and hear the song and the lyrics and sing it for you after a couple of plays  (Song Quotes) A song is like a saddle: you ride it for a while, and if it’s the right kind of song you can sing it for the rest of your life  (Song Quotes) Keeping the pen out of your hand as much as possible is the best way to write a song, in my estimation. But the pen must come in to tighten it up  (Song Quotes) There are people who can sit down and write a song about any given subject, and they can do it really, really well  (Song Quotes) Nothing is more rewarding than to take a song, create it out of thin air and then watch it affect people  (Song Quotes) Music is a very powerful thing. If I’m angry, I can write a song about it, and it seems to make everything okay  (Song Quotes) Nobody ever thinks a song is about them. Well, not when it’s mean. When it’s a good song everybody thinks it’s about them. And when it’s mean, nobody thinks it’s about them  (Song Quotes) All the folks I play with come from jazz backgrounds or at least appreciate spontaneity within the parameters of a pop song  (Song Quotes) I’ve always felt that the quality of the voice is where the real content of a song lies. Words only suggest an experience, but the voice is that experience  (Song Quotes) When playing any song in front of an audience, you’re watching them experience it, and it changes. In a lot of ways, it’s almost like the music is just the background buzz to what’s happening between you and the audience in the room  (Song Quotes) There’s definitely a visual aspect and an emotional aspect to a song. And that harks back, for me, to theater  (Song Quotes) I think every good song tells a story, as ambiguous and vague as it may be. And if you know what a song is talking about, it can only help your performance  (Song Quotes) Writing is my therapy. My feelings build up inside of me and then I sit down and write a song  (Song Quotes) I feel like there’s no subject that can’t be sung about. I wrote a song dedicated to people with inflammatory bowel disease, and then I wrote about shoes. And mangoes. Every rock should be turned  (Song Quotes) I’m definitely a guitar player, but it’s the last thing I listen to in a song, after the singer and the drums  (Song Quotes) I’m not too picky about guitars. I love to collect them, mostly oddballs, but I’m not married to any brand or model. Whatever guitar has the best character for the song is the one I want to use, because if you’ve got a style, you’re going to sound like yourself no matter what guitar you play  (Song Quotes) I have breakups that I can credit to every song. In my twenties, I picked people who would create that dysfunction and drama, so I could draw upon it  (Song Quotes) When I get all focused on songwriting, I get into all the marketing and promotion that we do to make it happen. Then the right song comes along and blows it all out of the water. The right song will do it for you every time  (Song Quotes) Why can’t you write a great pop song when you are 85? Maybe you can  (Song Quotes) Ever since I was really really little, I was just singing all the time. Like one of my favorite games when I was little would be to just have one of my sisters pick a title, and I would impromptu create that song  (Song Quotes) I started teaching myself guitar because I loved singing so much. Then one day kind of out of the blue I found I was writing a song. It just happened organically  (Song Quotes) I don’t really see how any song can not feel contrived if it isn’t honest, and how could I write honest songs if I don’t write about stuff going on in my life and how I’m feeling?  (Song Quotes) To make a song is a gift, and once it’s done it keeps evolving and changing and becomes a tool to interact with other people. It’s like a conversation  (Song Quotes) And I’m the biggest country fan there is, but I’m always a little cautious of a slower song or just a song with subject matter  (Song Quotes) I don’t concentrate on technical things like where a microphone is placed and things like that. As a producer, I try to keep the initial feeling from when I first heard a song and make sure we do what were initially aiming for  (Song Quotes) I felt alive when I read a script and acted out a scene, or sang a song. It was my dream. I’m just very lucky that I’m still doing it and able to earn a living from it  (Song Quotes) Pop music has greater power to change people and to affect people because it’s a universal language. You don’t have to understand music to understand the power of a pop song  (Song Quotes) I don’t know where life’s going, but soon it will be gone. I hope the wind that’s blowing helps me carry on. Turn on the radio, baby listen to my song. Turn on the night light baby, I’m gone  (Song Quotes) Chestnut brown canary, ruby throated sparrow, sing a song, don’t be long, thrill me to the marrow  (Song Quotes)
