There’s just a lot of people that hold on to what country means to them. I love fiddle, I love steel, but I don’t think it should be a rule that it has to be used in every song. I think that’s not what defines or makes country music  (Song Quotes) We’re all writing out of a wound, and that’s where our song comes from. The wound is singing. The majority of the songs I’ve every written I’ve always thought of the title before I’ve written the song  (Song Quotes) I think we should have understanding and love and peace. I mean, peace and love has been my situation. You hear that in the song. I’m trying to promote that now: peace and love and understanding  (Song Quotes) There’s nothing prettier in the world than a melody. I can get lost in a song with a melody  (Song Quotes) A song has to be hummable and memorable at it simplest form, and that’s what bass does for me. An old song makes you think of times gone by  (Song Quotes) There’s a story behind every old ballad or work song or nonsense song that I ever knew. Sometimes it’s a fascinating story. A story of people struggling for freedom, struggling to get along in this old world  (Song Quotes) My favorite records are by bands where the musicians are all playing like themselves, but those personalities connect in an exciting way and create music that is one cohesive unit. It’s not catchy like a pop song, but it’s a really cool song  (Song Quotes) Getting older doesn’t help you in the fact that you might have covered some of this ground before. So you’re listening to a song that you know is a hit, but it just can’t be a hit for you, it’s gonna be a hit for somebody else. That’s tough  (Song Quotes) I have to feel connected before I record and the song has to spark something inside me. Very few songs do that. I guess it’s a good process because I love all of my music  (Song Quotes) I definitely like to go out and dance. I’m a big vibe person when it comes to music so a song really has to make me feel a certain way in order for me to fall in love with it  (Song Quotes) Every time you write a song, you’re looking for some sort of perfection, and you never quite reach it. You’re always looking for that extra missing piece  (Song Quotes) The music takes on all different jobs and hopefully is part of telling the story. Each song has to be a story unto itself. It’s a very different set of muscles  (Song Quotes) A song to me is a very tangible thing. I can feel it with my hands and see it with my eyes  (Song Quotes) I always feel a rise in my scalp or in the backs of my wrists when something is special, whether it be a song or a man  (Song Quotes) When it comes to music, it’s my clothes, it’s my guitar, it’s my voice, it’s my song  (Song Quotes) Doing a scene truthfully is very similar to doing a song truthfully. They’re really parallel  (Song Quotes) It’s all very hazy to me now. I’m glad I made it through that stage. It got a little dicey. There were some drugs going on. I remember singing one song for about a day and a half  (Song Quotes) In the end, I get a really good song, and in the end, I get the hits. Yeah, I’m that good  (Song Quotes) Through song you learn, and I think school systems need to learn that. Through the rhythm you can learn better, through melody, with something you need to learn; it’s a vehicle for it  (Song Quotes) When I perform on stage, I often pretend to be someone other than myself to bring a certain emotion or intent to a song  (Song Quotes) You don’t need help to write a song. You just need to get over this experience that bummed you out so bad. The relationship you were in is over, it was over a long time ago, and you need to move on  (Song Quotes) Starting in music, where I get a chance to connect with the lyrics of a song, I learned so much about performing on stage and connecting to your audience and to what you’re singing about. Singing is very emotional. Every song has its own purpose  (Song Quotes) To me, the hook of the riff is what makes a great guitar recording. It’s the backbone of the whole song. When you have a strong riff, it’s the rocket fuel for the track  (Song Quotes) I wanna be able to stand on the stage and hold out the mic and people sing all the lyrics to my song  (Song Quotes) I try to write down every song that comes to me, even though I know that every song that comes to me isnt a song that I need to sing  (Song Quotes) I always felt I was scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to get a song together  (Song Quotes) The sentences I write have their roots in song and poetry, and take their bearings from music and painting, as much as from the need to impart mere information, or mirror anything.
