Text Quotes
The studio work is the nasty, tedious, hard and nerve-wracking part, interrupted by moments of exhilaration. Playing live is the chance to actually have some fun and get on a stage.  (Studio Quotes) My studio, nicknamed ‘Funny Farm,’ is in a hidden location. It’s very private. Not only do I create my photography there, but it is also where I write my books and create music.  (Studio Quotes) For me probably the best moment is before I get started in the morning. I get up and I ride my bike before I come into the studio, so there’s a lot of peace and quiet right before the day starts and my assistants get here.  (Studio Quotes) What’s working for me is like when I go into the studio, I’m trying to get goosebumps  (Studio Quotes) Travel is like a tonic to me. It’s more than just getting away from the studio for a brief rest. I need it to recharge my batteries.  (Studio Quotes) Any true musician, true artist, knows that when they’re in that point of total artistic creation, whether on stage or in the studio or writing or whatever, that’s the closest moment [to creation]. And that’s what keeps all these people addicted to getting back to that moment again.  (Studio Quotes) I’m vulnerable to criticism. Any artist is, because you work alone in your studio and, until recently, critics were the only way you’d get any feedback.  (Studio Quotes) You know, independent films have been institutionalized, practically. Every studio has got a boutique arthouse label. There’s like, 18 different independent film-financing funds. In fact, I think the children of those films are getting made. A more interesting question is whether those films are going to get seen and appreciated.  (Studio Quotes) I think that running a studio gave me an appetite for making a lot of different kinds of movies and it’s given me the opportunity to do that.  (Studio Quotes) Friends give me a hard time about the pants I’m wearing, which are made in China. Well, how do you find the right clothes? Or the right movie studio? The right people giving you checks? Good luck doing the right thing all the time.  (Studio Quotes) When you’re playing live, those people who you’re trying to please and reach, they’re right there giving you feedback. And you don’t get that feedback in the studio.  (Studio Quotes) I’m not going to go to a producer that’s going to take me in a studio and charge me my whole budget and give me a fake head nod. I’m just trying to make good music. I appreciate everybody that’s supporting me.  (Studio Quotes) I’ve always been blessed with confidence. I am a glass-half-full person. My first movie, ‘Private Benjamin,’ got turned down by every studio until the very last one, but I just kept thinking, ‘Why are you people not seeing that this is a hit movie? What is wrong with you?’  (Studio Quotes) I have the 77 Million Paintings’ running in my studio a lot of the time. Occasionally I’ll look up from what I’m doing and I think, ‘God, I’ve never seen anything like that before!’ And that’s a real thrill.  (Studio Quotes) Inspiration hits me at the most annoying times. Like when I am on my bicycle going back home from the studio at 3 a.m.. I’ve many crackly recordings into my mobile phone practically inaudible from the wind rushing into the handset!  (Studio Quotes) When you are in the studio, you don’t have anybody to feed off of; meanwhile, when you are playing live, you interact with people and you feel the energy in the room. When the crowd is going crazy, that definitely impacts your vocal performance. I prefer to sing live.  (Studio Quotes) On Letterman and Leno, it always bothers me when they go outside the studio and it’s daytime  (Studio Quotes) I want my paintings to look like what’s going on outside my window rather than what’s inside my studio.  (Studio Quotes) Things don’t get tough in the studio. Sometimes things get tough outside the studio and going in the studio is a relief, a sanctuary, therapy.  (Studio Quotes) It’s a different thing when you go into a studio and you record with the intent of going somewhere and you’re marketing yourself for that direction.  (Studio Quotes) I love the new technology. New things give you a reason to want to go to the studio. New challenges mean you have to keep up, you know?  (Studio Quotes) (on Warner Brothers) This studio has more suspensions than the Golden Gate Bridge  (Studio Quotes) I don’t think you can cover a song unless you love it and have a relationship with it. With ‘Golden Heart’ I felt a sense of responsibility. And when we were recording it in the studio, it felt almost dream-like. Something you might hear if you were in Senegal, with someone singing from the mosque in the morning just as the sun’s coming up.  (Studio Quotes) I left the studio at 5:30 in the morning. It’s an incredible mind exercise. You have to, obviously, have stamina, but you really feel like you’re kind of feeding your mind. It’s a challenge of learning lines very fast and then you have to be lose enough to hopefully make good choices in a much shorter amount of time that it takes to film certain scenes.  (Studio Quotes) I think I’m wealthy. I make a good living for what I do. Well, it depends. If I’m doing an independent film I’m making no money - probably losing money. But if I’m doing a studio film, I’ll make a decent wage. I can live for a year without working.  (Studio Quotes) My taste changes radically all the time, and I listen to whatever feels good. Another thing is that I’m in the studio so much of the time, and I listen to so much loud, aggressive music for work, that for pleasure, I’ll listen to something else.  (Studio Quotes) I was probably 15 when I started going to the studio with the older cats in my neighborhood. They heard me rap outside one time; I was just freestyling. And they invited me to the studio. It’s good when you’re accepted, no matter what crowd. That’s the first step of believing you can do whatever you feel like putting your mind to.  (Studio Quotes) When I get into the studio, it’s not about trying to get a good song, it’s about whatever comes naturally.  (Studio Quotes) In the marathon obstacle course of a career, it’s just good to have all the stats on paper for why you’re not only a team player but also why it makes sense to support you in the projects you want to do - because you’ve made so much damned money for the studio.  (Studio Quotes) There are always a lot of jokes and good vibes floating through the studio so tattooing all day doesn’t feel like a job. It’s rewarding to see my clients as excited as I am.  (Studio Quotes)
