Text Quotes
My family was going back to England to visit my mother’s grandmother, who was very ill. We went up to Liverpool and I met my great-aunt, who was just a force of nature. She was an elocution teacher and a huge enthusiast for theater and the classics. I took her amateur acting class, and she was really impressed with me  (Theater Quotes) I went to the High School for Performing Arts in New York for acting. I’ve studied it on and off for years and have done some theater and film  (Theater Quotes) I left the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin in 2004, and I did five years of theater after that  (Theater Quotes) I was pursuing the arts with theater in school, and I was doing after-school activities, but not in any real movement towards a professional career.  (Theater Quotes) Theater is a really exciting place to return to all the time because it’s incredible training for an actor.  (Theater Quotes) What’s great about New York is that there are a lot of theater actors and actresses, who are trained actors, that they bring onto the show. They’re so talented, in such a weird, quirky and ominous way. And it’s great to be able to work with new faces, too.  (Theater Quotes) I think theater and church are so relatable because it’s traditional call-and-response in the way that an audience interacts with the actors.  (Theater Quotes) Actors are different. Some actors play themselves very successfully, but I come from the theater. Having done Shakespeare, we sometimes did three or four characters in the same play.  (Theater Quotes) I’m terrified of being too famous. What I’m really afraid of is that the audiences will go into the theater and not be able to forget that it’s me, that fame will stand in the way of my acting. I want to keep being able to change into different shapes and different personalities.  (Theater Quotes) When you call someone and ask them to do something they’ve never done before, in different mediums I think they would be inclined to pass because they’re afraid of the risk. But the creative people who populate the theater world love the challenge of new things.  (Theater Quotes) I was taking electives, and that branched into theater. Theater led to me taking a break during the summer between my junior and senior year. After I graduated, I ended up moving out to L.A. But in my senior year, I made it a part of my major.  (Theater Quotes) I went to college as a theater major. But after about three weeks of that, I changed to the school of fine arts as a painter.  (Theater Quotes) I have the cliche ‘struggling actor’ story. I was waiting tables in New York, went out to L.A. soon after graduation to get some jobs, but it didn’t work out. I wanted to cut my teeth in professional theater, so I came back to New York. It made my journey a longer one, but I really wanted to excel in the theater.  (Theater Quotes) In my early childhood, I was a performer by nature. I used to do puppet shows as a kid and entertain kids in classes and the teachers would make it a point that I was the entertainer of the class, but only after high school and in college that I started doing theater and acting classes, because I thought it would be fun.  (Theater Quotes) After school, I was planning to jump from regional theater to regional theater  (Theater Quotes) I always did workshops. I would be at theater camp, doing shows, or after-school programs.  (Theater Quotes) I had dropped out of theater school after six months and was just staying on my mom’s couch at home in Toronto.  (Theater Quotes) One of the Age of Enlightenment’s most hypnotic images is Ledoux’s rendering of his neoclassical theater of 1775 - 1784 in Besancon, surreally reflected in the colossal eye of an unidentified cosmic being.  (Theater Quotes) During a trip to Iraq last fall, I visited our theater hospital at Balad Air Force Base and witnessed these skilled medical professionals in action and met the brave soldiers whose lives they saved.  (Theater Quotes) If you’re a woman doing classic theater, the big roles are often destroyers. I’ve played Hedda Gabler, Lady Macbeth, some of the Chekhovian heroines, Electra, Phaedra - they’re all powerful women, but they’re forces of negativity.  (Theater Quotes) You can work really hard on your physicality, on your craft, on the films you do. You can choose the best of directors, the best of productions, get the best technicians, you can put your entire body and soul into the making of a film, but at the end of the day, it all depends on the mood of that one audience member that goes into that theater.  (Theater Quotes) I have taught some master classes and things at my alma mater and sometimes at my kids’ school. I will go in and talk to the theater students. I wouldn’t really call myself a teacher.  (Theater Quotes) I went to theater school but never really got the chance to do theater, and it’s always been a dream of mine.  (Theater Quotes) There are still some people out there who believe comic books are nothing more than, well, comic books. But the true cognoscenti know graphic novels are - at their best - an amazing blend of art literature and the theater of the mind.  (Theater Quotes) I went to college and got my degree in acting, but because it was all theater, I really consider my first couple years on ‘Mad Men’ as amazing training for working in television and for acting on-camera.  (Theater Quotes) For me, because I’ve had classical theater training, when people say, Oh, my God, the play is amazing!, I’ll never get to see it because I’m in it.  (Theater Quotes) I went to NYU Tisch for undergrad, and it was amazing. My life then was extremely experimental with acting. I did crazy theater where we would be rolling around on the floor. I would be playing grandmothers, and clowns, and all this crazy stuff. Then I would be doing Shakespeare eight hours a day.  (Theater Quotes) I started off in musical theater, yeah. It was one of my first jobs; it was in Spring Awakening in London, which was amazing.  (Theater Quotes) I would really love theater. I would love to do Shakespeare, that would be amazing. You know, it’s whatever really comes my way.  (Theater Quotes) I want to continue to produce film, television, and theater, and to make the most amazing music that I’ve made in my life.  (Theater Quotes)
