Text Quotes
There are times in a person’s life when he or she must make a choice to believe. I choose to believe the sun will rise tomorrow. I also choose to believe that if you go to bed hungry you will wake up ready to eat. I’ve met a group of men in a faraway country who choose to believe that if you stand on a tree stump for an hour you will gain sympathy for trees. I am already quite sympathetic to trees, so I choose to think they are bonkers  (Times Quotes) A couple of times he called the second he’d finished reading a novel and just had to tell me about it, and I know it sounds hokey and librarianish to say so, but I just swooned when he did that  (Times Quotes) There are times when friendship feels like running down a hill together as fast as you can, jumping over things, spinning around, and you don’t care where you’re going, and you don’t care where you’ve come from, because all that matters is speed, and the hands holding your hands  (Times Quotes) I was remembering the things we had done together, the times we had had. It would have been pleasant to preserve that comradeship in the days that came after. Pleasant, but alas, impossible. That which had brought us together had gone, and now our paths diverged, according to our natures and needs. We would meet again, from time to time, but always a little more as strangers; until perhaps at last, as old men with only memories left, we could sit together and try to share them  (Times Quotes) However, some things must be said, and there are times when silence becomes an accomplice to injustice  (Times Quotes) Writing is the hardest work in the world. I have been a bricklayer and a truck driver, and I tell you – as if you haven’t been told a million times already – that writing is harder. Lonelier. And nobler and more enriching  (Times Quotes) I believed in immaculate conception and spontaneous combustion. I believed in aliens from outer space and vampires, prophecy, and the resurrection of the dead. I had deja vu many times each day. I was thirteen  (Times Quotes) In the end we had changed the position of the hands so many times that we had no idea what the time really was  (Times Quotes) There are many, many difficult times, God knows. If a person wants to stand on her own two feet, I recommend undertaking the care and feeding of something. It could be children, or it could be house plants, you know? By doing that you come to understand your own limitations. That’s where it starts  (Times Quotes) The game is an analogy for life: there are not enough chairs or good times to go around, not enough food, not enough joy, nor beds nor jobs nor laughs nor friends nor smiles nor money nor clean air to breathe... and yet the music goes on  (Times Quotes) Human spirit is the ability to face the uncertainty of the future with curiosity and optimism. It is the belief that problems can be solved, differences resolved. It is a type of confidence. And it is fragile. It can be blackened by fear, and superstition. By the year 2050, when the conflict began, the world had fallen upon fearful, superstitious times  (Times Quotes) The woman who first gives life, light, and form to our shadowy conceptions of beauty, fills a void in our spiritual nature that has remained unknown to us till she appeared. Sympathies that lie too deep for words, too deep almost for thoughts, are touched, at such times, by other charms than those which the senses feel and which the resources of expression can realise. The mystery which underlies the beauty of women is never raised above the reach of all expression until it has claimed kindred with the deeper mystery in our own souls  (Times Quotes) Sometimes not talking is effortless, and other times it’s more exhausting than lifting pianos  (Times Quotes) Books have been my classroom and my confidant. Books have widened my horizons. Books have comforted me in my hardest times. Books have changed my life  (Times Quotes) When I say that life is like an onion, I mean this: if you don’t do anything with it, it goes rotten. So far, that’s no different from other vegetables. But when an onion goes bad, it can either do it from the inside, or the outside. So sometimes you see one that looks good, but the core is rotten. Other times, you can see a bad spot on it, but if you cut that out, the rest is fine. Tastes sharp, but that’s what you paid for, isn’t it?  (Times Quotes) After 100 years, films should be getting really complicated. The novel has been reborn about 400 times, but it’s like cinema is stuck in the birth canal  (Times Quotes) There’ll be times when the only refuge is books. Then you’ll read as if you meant it, as if your life depended on it  (Times Quotes) Obsessed? I don’t know what the word means. I know there were times when I couldn’t think of anything else. I used to stay in every weeknight in the hope that he might get free and call me. It felt like I had a disease I didn’t want to get rid of. I suppose that’s a definition of obsession, yes  (Times Quotes) You can’t help it. An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times  (Times Quotes) A story can be new and yet tell about olden times. The past comes into existence with the story  (Times Quotes) In desperate times, much more than anything else, folks need perspective. For perspective brings calm. Calm leads to clear thinking. Clear thinking yields new ideas. And ideas produce the bloom... of an answer. Keep your head and heart clear. Perspective can just as easily be lost as it can be found  (Times Quotes) There is a life behind the personality that uses personalities as masks. There are times when life puts off the mask and deep answers unto deep  (Times Quotes) We can assume that most people, most of the time, are moral creatures. But imagine that this morality is like a gearshift that at times gets pushed into neutral. When that happens, morality is disengaged. If the car happens to be on an incline, car and driver move precipitously downhill. It is then the nature of the circumstances that determines outcomes, not the driver’s skills or intentions  (Times Quotes) In times of storm and tempest, of indecision and desolation, a book already known and loved makes better reading than something new and untried... nothing is so warming and companionable  (Times Quotes) Patience gives your spouse permission to be human. It understands that everyone fails. When a mistake is made, it chooses to give them more time that they deserve to correct it. It gives you the ability to hold on during the rough times in your relationship rather than bailing out under the pressure  (Times Quotes) There aren’t any old times. When times are gone they’re not old, they’re dead! There aren’t any times but new times!  (Times Quotes) No one can survive childhood without being wounded. Everyone remembers at least one time when their parents rejected them, pushed them away, even though they may have still been in the womb, blind, and unable to speak. That’s why, as adults, we all look for someone to become our parents again, and for someone to look after us in times of need. And we search for a person to live with who can provide the companionship we so desperately want  (Times Quotes) He asked himself those some questions too many times and felt the fears again that kept him where he was  (Times Quotes) Son, there are times a man has to do things he doesn’t like to, in order to protect his family  (Times Quotes) Fear sucks. Because you never know when it will attack. Sometimes it sneaks up behind you, giggling like your best girlfriend from seventh grade. Then it whacks you on the back of the head, takes you straight to your knees before you realize what hit you. Other times you can see it coming, just a dot on the horizon, but you’re like a canary in a cage. All you can do is hang in there and hope you don’t get motion sickness and puke all over the newspapers  (Times Quotes)
