Text Quotes
I never thought I’d be one of those old hams who favours theatre over everything, but I’m getting that way. Telly and film seemed more fun when I was younger; turning left on planes and washing up in nice places. But there are things that you only learn in theatre  (Urning Quotes) I’m the least fanciful guy around, but on nights when I wonder whether there was any point to my day, I think about this: the first thing we ever did, when we started turning into humans, was draw a line across the cave door and say: Wild stays out. What I do is what the first men did. They built walls to keep back the sea. They fought the wolves for the hearth fire  (Urning Quotes) Going nowhere isn’t about turning your back on the world; it’s about stepping away now and then so that you can see the world more clearly and love it more deeply  (Urning Quotes) I like the weight, look, and feel of a book. I enjoy turning the pages, and frequently scan the spines of my many books on the wall, each title a reminder of the stored information and creative thoughts contained therein  (Urning Quotes) Death is the gate of life. Ingratitude is the soul’s enemy... Ingratitude is a burning wind that dries up the source of love, the dew of mercy, the streams of grace. You will find something far greater in the woods than you will find in books. Stones and trees will teach you that which you will never learn from masters  (Urning Quotes) Never discuss the poem you contemplate writing. It’s like turning on the outside spigot. It takes all the pressure off the upstairs bathroom  (Urning Quotes) The economy is turning, and credit comes in with a lag,.. To the extent that a number of small firms are finding it difficult to get the credit they need at a price they can afford, that’s likely to change for the better  (Urning Quotes) Tomorrow’s leaders not only have dreams, goals and plans. They are willing to work hard and to take responsibility for turning their plans into energy, perspiration and effort. They don’t sit back and wait for someone else to turn their dreams into action. They take charge of executing their own plan  (Urning Quotes) I use charcoal a lot. Partly because it has such a fantastic range but also because it is very easy to erase. For me, drawing is a lot to do with taking out, with returning to the white of the paper  (Urning Quotes) I never succeed in painting scenes, however beautiful, immediately upon returning from them. I must wait for a time to draw a veil over the common details  (Urning Quotes) No I don’t get scared when returning kicks or worry about getting hurt. I have been doing this since childhood so I am used to it  (Urning Quotes) Family members have a personal stake in honoring and mourning their dead and objecting to unwarranted public exploitation that, by intruding upon their own grief, tends to degrade the rites and respect they seek to accord to the deceased person who was once their own  (Urning Quotes) Trees and soils can absorb carbon dioxide released by fossil fuel burning. It would be great to subsidize responsible farmers and forest managers  (Urning Quotes) I wish I could convey the perfection of a seal slipping into water or a spider monkey swinging from point to point or a lion merely turning its head. But language founders in such seas. Better to picture it in your head if you want to feel it  (Urning Quotes) People now are beginning to cheer for me. I’ve never heard that before... Maybe things are turning a bit  (Urning Quotes) At least in my country, we have come to accept the flags burning, but what we cannot accept is violence, burning of embassies and intimidations, and there is no excuse for that  (Urning Quotes) My father didn’t think being an artist was a respectable or worthy goal for a man. He hoped I would see my way to more serious work and would find myself turning towards medicine, law, or business  (Urning Quotes) There will come a time when the world will look back to modern vivisection in the name of science, as they do now to burning at the stake in the name of religion  (Urning Quotes) This was middle school, the age of miracles, the time when kids shot up three inches over the summer, when breasts bloomed from nothing, when voices dipped and dove. Our first flaws were emerging, but they were being corrected. Blurry vision could be fixed invisibly with the magic of the contact lens. Crooked teeth were pulled straight with braces. Spotty skin could be chemically cleared. Some girls were turning beautiful. A few boys were growing tall  (Urning Quotes) On the whole, we think that the greatest victories are yet to be won, the greatest deeds yet to be done, and that there are yet in store for our peoples, and for the causes that we uphold, grander triumphs than have ever yet been scored. But be this as it may, we gladly agree that the one plain duty of every man is to face the future as he faces the present, regardless of what it may have in store for him, turning toward the light as he sees the light, to play his part manfully, as a man among men  (Urning Quotes) Ambition is the desire to go forward and improve one’s condition. It is a burning flame that lights up the life of the individual and makes him see himself in another state. To be ambitious is to be great in mind and soul. To want that which is worth while and strive for it. To go on without looking back, reaching to that which gives satisfaction  (Urning Quotes) Turning the other cheek is not always the answer. In a certain situation on a certain day for a certain person, it’s correct. Sometimes a good roundhouse kick on a certain day in a certain situation for a certain person is correct  (Urning Quotes) I dreamed I saw the bombers riding shot gun in the sky and they were turning into butterflies above our nation  (Urning Quotes) The peculiar habit, when searching for a snack, of constantly returning to the refrigerator in hopes that something new will have materialized  (Urning Quotes) Turning points in my life... the bush, the trails, lakes, waterfalls... moving camp from one wonderful lake to another... the companionship of a great individual, a wonder with canoe, axe and fish line  (Urning Quotes) Everyone has an idea, but it’s taking those first steps toward turning that idea into a reality that are always the toughest  (Urning Quotes) I know I’d rather have any amount of time with a dog I love and suffer the mourning than not have the time at all  (Urning Quotes) I have always tried to be obedient regarding important matters like not being scalded to death by burning oil, but when public opinion takes a route far from one’s inner conviction, one cannot value disobedience too highly  (Urning Quotes) Poetry, I’m returning to it, never leaves me. It’s my genre completely. In poetry I contemplate myself exuberantly. It’s my unique strength. Force of gravity, electric and magnetic energy; in my own way, to make a synthesis  (Urning Quotes) Some of my old memories feel trapped in amber in my brain, lucid and burning, while others are like the wing beat of a hummingbird, an intangible, ephemeral blur  (Urning Quotes)
