Text Quotes
I didn’t go to bookshops to buy. That’s a little bourgeois. I went because they were civilized places. It made me happy there were people who sat down and wrote and wrote and wrote and there were other people who devoted their lives to making those words into books. It was lovely. Like standing in the middle of civilization  (Went Quotes) I actually think I left 10 to 20 pounds on the stage, because it went up pretty easily. Seven hundred has been an accomplishment I’ve wanted for a while, but the last few months, as my training has gotten better, I knew this was going to be a reality. That’s when I knew I was getting close and this could really happen  (Went Quotes) It is totally different. But once we went to 12 teams, that’s just the way it was going to be. It’s just a reality. But I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that some team can win four games in four days and win the whole thing  (Went Quotes) I couldn’t resist. I went over and joined in, and we just sang the song together,... They had no idea that I had written it, or who I was. I was just some weird guy who wanted to join in on the singing  (Went Quotes) It used to be 65 when you went into retirement. Before that, when you got into your 50s, you were getting older  (Went Quotes) I never remember having a plan. All I could think about was how I was going to afford to get into college or where I was going to stay because I hated being at home. I didn’t really have time to think about anything in the future. I didn’t think about a career or anything. I went to uni, got a couple of jobs, so I sort of funded it myself  (Went Quotes) I went to public school my whole life, graduated high school with my class. Growing up, I’d go to an audition, my friends would go to soccer practice and we’d all reconvene and hang out in our neighborhood. When I would book something, I would never tell my friends. Acting was just fun. I was a kid, I wasn’t jaded  (Went Quotes) There are many women in their late teens and early twenties who have either experienced violence in a relationship or have witnessed it at home in their childhood  (Went Quotes) One day you’re there and then all of a sudden, there’s less of you. And you wonder where that part went. If it’s living somewhere outside of you. And you keep thinking maybe you’ll get it back. And then you realize it’s just gone  (Went Quotes) Humanity cannot afford to muddle through the rest of the twentieth century; the risks are too great, and the stakes are too high. This may be the last opportunity to choose our own and our descendants’ destiny. Failing to choose or making the wrong choices may lead to catastrophe. But it must never be forgotten that the right choices could lead to a much better world  (Went Quotes) And in this silence of the dumb and these speeches of the blind, in this medly of people bound together by the same grief, terror and hope, in this hatred and lack of understanding between men who spoke the same tongue, you could see much of the tragedy of the twentieth century  (Went Quotes) Twenty years from now if there is some obscure trivial pursuits question, I am confident I will be the answer  (Went Quotes) We went in and recorded exactly where we were at that point in time. I think because of the quality of musicianship of the band has given it the longevity. I thought the music would endure, I didn’t think I would... I always thought I’d be dead by 30, then dead by 40 and on and on. Now I’m 55 so I didn’t even die at 50  (Went Quotes) As time went on, we learned to arm ourselves in our different ways. Some of us with real guns, some of us with more ephemeral weapons, an idea or improbable plan or some sort of formulation about how best to move through the world. An idea that will let us be. Protect us and keep us safe. But a weapon nonetheless  (Went Quotes) I have always respected education, which is why I actually went back secretly and taught school for eight years  (Went Quotes) Literature is love. I think it went like this: drawings in the cave, sounds in the cave, songs in the cave, songs about us. Later, stories about us. Part of what we always did was have sex and fight about it and break each other’s hearts. I guess there’s other kinds of love too. Great friendships. Working together. But poetry and novels are lists of our devotions. We love the feel of making the marks as the feelings are rising and falling. Living in literature and love is the best thing there is. You’re always home  (Went Quotes) This simple thing has not been that easy to learn. it certainly went against everything I had been taught since I was very young. I thought people listened only because they were too timid to speak or did not know the answer. A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well intentioned words  (Went Quotes) I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned as red as blood. I stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired. Tongues of fire and blood stretched over the bluish black fjord. My friends went on walking, while I lagged behind, shivering with fear. Then I heard the enormous infinite scream of nature  (Went Quotes) I was walking along a road one evening – on one side lay the city, and below me was the fjord. The sun went down – the clouds were stained red, as if with blood. I felt as though the whole of nature was screaming – it seemed as though I could hear a scream. I painted that picture, painting the clouds like real blood. The colours screamed  (Went Quotes) ... you never knew what was going to happen in concert. It was a really exciting prospect to go onstage, and you can hear that in the live recordings... wherever we were and whatever year it was, we always went onstage determined to do our best  (Went Quotes) The result was the same as tuning down the strings by a semitone and using a capo at the first fret. With less tension in the strings, the sound was more mellow and softer; it also allowed me to cover a larger span of the fingerboard. I used this for quite a few years, but eventually I went back to the standard fingerboard  (Went Quotes) I used to think that animation was about moving stuff. In order to make it really great, you bounce it, squash it, stretch it, make the eyes go big. But, as time went on, I started loving animating a character who had a kind of burning passion in her heart. Suddenly, animation became for me not so much about moving stuff as it was about moving the audience  (Went Quotes) Every issue of the paper presents an opportunity and a duty to say something courageous and true; to rise above the mediocre and conventional; to say something that will command the respect of the intelligent, the educated, the independent part of the community; to rise above fear of partisanship and fear of popular prejudice. I would rather have one article a day of this sort; and these ten or twenty lines might readily represent a whole day’s hard work in the way of concentrated, intense thinking and revision, polish of style, weighing of words  (Went Quotes) Then the children went to bed, or at least went upstairs, and the men joined the women for a cigarette on the porch, absently picking ticks engorged like grapes off the sleeping dogs. And when the men kissed the women good night, and their weekend whiskers scratched the women’s cheeks, the women did not think shave, they thought stay  (Went Quotes) I was raised with the notion that you can do pretty much do anything you want. I always kind of just went ahead and tried things  (Went Quotes) We spend our life until we’re twenty deciding what parts of ourself to put into the bag, and we spend the rest of our lives trying to get them out again  (Went Quotes) If you subtracted all of the great artists who never drank, who never went to excess, you wouldn’t have any more art left. What kind of poem are you gonna get out of a glass of iced tea?  (Went Quotes) Magnum photographers were meant to go out as a crusade... to places like famine and war and... I went out and went round the corner to the local supermarket because this to me is the front line  (Went Quotes) I like to have the screen full of color, twenty colors on the screen at once, fifty colors. There are no dominants despite what people have said  (Went Quotes) Almost all men are over anxious. No sooner do they enter the world than they lose that taste for natural and simple pleasures so remarkable in early life. Every hour do they ask themselves what progress they have made in the pursuit of wealth or honor and on they go as their fathers went before them till weary and sick at heart they look back with a sigh of regret to the golden time of their childhood  (Went Quotes)
